The September meeting of the
Woman's Society of Christian Ser
vice of the First Methodist Church
was held last Tuesday afternoon
witfmiemhers of the Fincher Chap
el .Society as guests.
Mis. Henry Gaddy, president of
the hostess group, presided and
Mis. Howard Bryson presented the
program.
Following the meeting, a social
hour was held in the dining room
of the church in celebration of the
10th anniversary of the founding
of the Society, Mrs. Gaddy pre
sided at the tea table which feat
ured a birthday cake with candles.

The Crahtree-Hyder Mountain
Home Demonstration Club held Its
September meeting at the home of
Mrs. H. H. Holt last Friday after
noon. Mrs. G. C. Palmer, Sr. presided
and Mrs. C. O, Newell conducted
the devotional.
The demonstration, on The Pro
fessional Touch in Sewing, was giv
en by Miss Mary Cornwell and a
gardens report was given by Mrs.
Lowery Ferguson.
Mrs. O. C. Plott and Mr. Hay
wood Plott spent the week-end in
Marietta, Ga as the guests of
Mrs. Plott's son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Plott.

kins. 60, of Sylva, who died Friday
night in the Veterans Administra
tion Hospital at Swannanoa, were
held this afternoon in the Sylva
Methodist Church.
Tompkins was a former State
representative from Jackson Coun
ty and formerly published the
Jackson County Journal.
A native of Webster, he attended
the Waynesville High School and
Wake Forest College.
He served as an enlisted man
