Contest Miss Margaret Kathryn Reese has been selected by the faculty and student body of the Waynesville Township High School to represent the school and the Dorcas Bell Love Chapter, Daughters of the Ameri can Revolution in the annual Citi zenship Pilgrimage contest by the D. A. R. In high schools throughout the United States. Selection of a Pilgrim is based on leadership, scholarship, char acter, and contribution to commun ity service. As local winner. Miss Reese will compile a scrapbook of her school, church, and community activities to enter in the state-wide contest. Miss Reese, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Reese, is a member of the senior class and an. honor student. She is a charter member and farmer president of the Tally-Ho Dramatics Club and a member and former treasurer of the Masque and Gavel Society. She is assistant busi ness manager of the 1951 school annual and served last year as jun ior representative on the annual Maff. She is also on the staff of the Local Yokel, the school newspaper,. Miss Reese sang with the Festival Chorus at Woman's College in Greensboro in 1949 and also re presented the school at Western Carolina Teachers College on Field Day. A. R. has sponsored a good citizenship pilgrim since 1935. Three times Waynesville girls have won the state contest and others have re ceived honorable mention. This is a record held by no other school in the state. State winners were Patsy Gwyn, 1942; Rosemary Herman, 1944 ;and Jane Wyche, 1945. Mary Ann Mas sie won second place in 1948 and others have been Ann Marie Peck, 1935; Sara Welch, 1936; Sara Jane Walker, 1937; Virginia Kellett. 1939; Ruth Turner, 1940; Lois Mas sie, 1941; Mary Ellen Boone, 1943; Theresa Alley, 1946; Eugenia Boone, 1947; and Kathryn Hyatt, 1949. Margaret Scruggs Is Bride Of Joseph Murrill Mr. and Mrs. x Clarence A bcruggs of Hazeiwood have an nounced the marriage of their daughter, Miss Margaret Ann Scruggs, to Joseph E. Murrill of Waynesville, son of Mrs. Mamie Murrill of Wilmington and the late James Murrill. The double 4 ring ceremony took place in Greenville, S. C. on Friday, November 3, with Judge Guy A. Gullick pronouncing the vows. The bride was attired in a fell suit of wine wool with black a? cessories and a corsage of chrysan themums. The couple is residing in Hazel- wood following a short wedding trip. Mr. Murrill received his educa tion in the Jacksonville, N. C. Schools and served with the Mar ines in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He is now a member of the North Carolina Highway Pat rol and has been stationed here since March of this year. Rummage Sale To Be Held Fri.andSat. The Rummage Sale, sponsored by the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Metho dist church, will be held Friday and Saturday in the building for merly occupied by Hyatt's Fashion Corner on Church Street. Proceeds will go to the fund for improvements in the church. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hyatt of Spartanburg, S. C, announce the birth of a son at Spartanburg Gen eral Hospital on Wednesday, No vember 8. Mrs. Hyatt is the former Miss Dorothy Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Smith of Hazeiwood. The wedding will take place on December 16 in St. John's Catholic Church here. MRS. This year's theme is "Make Friends With Books." Miss Margaret Johnston, librar ian, has announced that over 200 new children's boks will be on ex hibit in the library during the en tire week and she has extended a special invitation to teachers, par ents, and students to visit the dis play. An additional exhibit will be shown in the office of the Building and Loan Association. To Have Woman's Club Completes Plans For Card Party Arrangements have been com pleted for the card party, sponsor ed by the Waynesville Woman's Club, to be held In the dirplay room of the Davis Liner Motor Company on Wednesday night, No vember 15. The party is being given lor the benefit of the club's annual Com munity Christmas Tree. Prizes are being donated by local merchants and business men and will be awarded at each table.
