Mooro Coa'gtrs lc Stamey Cove Wins Two, Loses Two The Stamey Cove Community Development basketball teams suf fered a double loss at the hands of Center Pigeon Monday nilit, but came back on Tuday night to take a double win from the Aliens Creek Community teams. In the girls' game on Monday night, the Center Pigeon girls won by a decisive 29-11, and the bins won 56-49. The Center Pigeon lassies took an early lead in the first of the Same and Stamey Cove failed to ever catch up with them. The boys' game was exciting with the score tied, 39-39 at the end of the game. In the overtime the Center Pigeon boys ran up a lead and kept it until the final whistle. In the games on Tuesday nlgrit. the Center Pigeon lassies racked up a 21-16 victory over Aliens Creek, and the boys made a night of it by taking the Aliens Creek boys, 60-46. The girls' game was Stamey Cove all the way, with Rubye Trull lead nig the way. In the boys' game, the Aliens Creek boys took an early lead and held it until the third quarter where Stamey Cove took over. Lake Junaluska led the way un til late In the third quarter when Hazelwood took over, and won the game by the score of 55-45. Rob Davis and Sammy Jones were high scorers for Hazelwood. Bob got 23 points and Sammy came up with 17. For the losers It was Bobby Presncll and his brother Carl who get the praise. Bobby had 18 points and Carl was runner-up with 12. L. Muddy Bottom had a tough time for the first part of the game, but finally started making their shots good and making plenty of them Billy Leatherwood gets credit for scoring the most points and Lloyd Bridges gets a pat on the back for running him a close sec ond. Billy led with 16 points and Lloyd came up with 14. Both boys are hard to beat when they work together. In looking over on the Lake side it looks like Tommy Nichols gets the praise and Reeves Carver is sticking right with him. Tommy racked up 12 points and Reeves got 7. The Muddy Bottom boys now have 7 wins to thir credit, and only 1 loss. The Lake boys have won 4 and lost 2. The teams were well matched and the boys on both teams turned in some outstanding ball playing. The next contest for Muddy Bot tom will be when they face the Francis Cove boys at the Hazel wood gym, Tuesday night at 7:30, and the Lake team will travel down to Fines Creek for a game with White Oak, Wednesday night.
