Club met at the home of Mrs. Clyde Miller Thursday, Feb. 22nd, with Mrs. Miller, vice president, presiding. Devotional was given by Mrs. T. E. Shook, Jr. Roll call was answered with a "thrift hint." During the business session Mrs. W. S. McElrath reported that the club raised $38 for the Polio Fund. She awarded hand-made gifts to Mrs. Victoria Hipps and Mrs. Cromer Crisp for their outstanding work in this project. The resignation of Mrs. Howell Pless, President, was accepted, and Mrs. Earl Poe was selected to fill this vacancy. Following the report on the County Council meeting the club chose their theme for Achievement Day. Leaders' reports were heard 'rom Mrs. Theodore Clark on Gardens; Mrs. Paul Gibson, Home Beautifi cation; Mrs. William McClure, Poultry; and Mrs. James L. Hyde on Arts & Crafts. J. at 4:30 p.m. February 21. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh L. Walker of Crabtree. The Rev. Marshall Raby, pastor of the Crabtree Baptist Church of ficiated. The vows were spoken be fore an arch of evergreen and whitn aladiolus. with baskets of white gladiolus on each side of the arch. A program of wedding mu sic was prosented by Miss Sylvia Newell. The bride wore a grey suit with green accessories and curried a .bouquet of pink tarnations and white gladiolus with pink satin streamers. Little Carol Ann Green of Sal em, N. George Mehaffey of Dcllwood Baptist church, conducted the de votional. He stressed cooperation on the part of teachers, home and church in building citizens for the future with the leadership of God. Lawrence Leatheiwood, chair man of the Haywood County Legis lative committee, spoke on legis lative matters, pointing out that parents and teachers would be alert to the happenings In Raleigh. He pointed out also that copies of pending bills were available with the names of the law makers at tached. It was mutually agreed that informed citizens, especially parents, were more effective voN ers. It was further agreed that politics had no place in matters concerning the welfare of the school children of North Carolina. Members agreed that personali ties and personal feeling should be left out. and the betterment of future educational systems should . be the first consideration. Parents were urged to let officials know that they were expected to follow such course of non-partisan and non-personal interest, putting the Declamation Contest '..' S. of Horky Branch Baptist church held their regular monthly business meeting last Tuesday with Mrs. W. S. Weaver presiding. The Society voted to buy a half-ton of roal for two needy families in the community. The women met again on Fri day night to study the hook, "Oh Jerusalem." The Rev. Elmer Greene led the study m'onp. The next social, meeting, of the group, will' be held on Tuesday, March 6, at the home of Mrs. Jim Ammons. The meeting was post poned from Monday so that mem bers could attend the evangelistic rally at the First Baptist church on that evening.
