Mrs. Lockie Grooms had as her guests last week end, Donald Grooms, of Ashcville, Mr. and Mrs. Peward Grooms and family, also Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Grooms and family of Gastonia, .a ! A, r Mrs. Frank Sorrells, Sr. was hostess to the Riverside W. M. U. at a quilting on Tuesday. A pot luck lunch was served at noon. The quilting fees are being put into a "special" fund to be used when the building program is ended. Sunrise services which was held at the Riverside Baptist Church last Sunday at 7:00 A. M. was at tended by about 100. The sympathy of this commun ity is extended the family and rel atives of "Aunt Addie" Hightower, 96, who passed away Monday after noon following a long illness at trie home of a son, Alfred. Services were held Wednesday afternoon. Pfc. MAX YARBROl'GH, shown above, is now stationed at the Lackland Air Base in San An tonio, Texas. Yarbrough volun teered for the Air Force Janu ary 2 of this year. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. The book "We Seek Him To gether" was the subject for dis cussion in a joint study course at Long's Methodist Church Tuesday March 27 with Long's W.S.C.S. and Morning Star W.S.C.S. participat ing. Mrs. V. E. Wilson led the de votional and those taking part were: Mrs Asmond Maxwell, Mrs. Drye, Mrs, Hasrue Klnsland, Mrs Burder Wells and Mrs. Lane Med ford. Both societies were well represented. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pruitt have moved into the apartment of Mr, and Mrs. Hascue Kinsland. My Old Kentucky Home LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Since 1875 when' the race was first run, 404 owners have started 799 horses in the Kentucky Derby ut Churchill Downs. The largest field to start the Derby was 22 horses in 1928. The smallest fields were in 1892 and 1905. Only three starters went to the post in those years. The largest number ever nominated for the race was 196 in 1920, small est was 34 in 1876. Mr. Nix, the agriculture teacher of Bethel has left, so thai he might continue his education working for his Master's Degree. Mr. Set ter has taken his place and is get ting along splendidly with the Ag boys. The M.Y.F. of Bethel Methodist Church took as their project, build ns a memorial chapel. In June they gave an ice cream supper hich raised $25. During Youth Activity Week in June, drapes were made and altar with a velvet back drop. A spinet piano was given the Memorial Chapel by Mrs. J. Potter of New York in mem ory of her mother and father, Mr. nd Mrs. Harrison Mauney. The W.S.C.S. of Bethel Methodist pre sented this chapel with a pulpit Bible. Mr. Tom Cathcy rcfinished le pulpit and made a walnut ross and candle holders. I ne M.Y.F. has bought hymnals and n olfcring plate. Mrs. J. B. Fouls, second grade teacher at Bethel School has been seriously ill for the past week but is improving now. She is in Angel Hospital in Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Terrell Brysoti of Detroit, Mich., entertained with a family dinner at their summer home near Franklin on Sunday, March 25. Around 40 guests at tended. The credit goes lo the Woman's Society of the Church. The children say "A Great Big Thanks." The Stamey Cove Community Basketball club (boys and girls) will sponsor a benefit concert at the Champion "Y" Thursday night, April 5. from 7:30 to 9:30. Admis sion will be 25c and 50c.
