' Due to weather conditions, the team has been limited in out-of- door practice, but the boys are looking better every day. The afternoon sessions have been long, and emphasis was plac ed on bunting drills Friday. The reason for the bunting is the lack" of power at the plate in Hie prospects for this year's team. Thursday' afternoon Coach Mar shall Tongue held his first inter squad cnntesl, and the lettermen (It feated the newcomers, 7-5. tin the winning team it was Haljih Jenkins and Jimmy Frady pitching to Alden MeCracken, and rrady was the winning pitcher. Knee Pants League Will fel Wednesday To Map Plans For 66 Game Season The thud of the horsehide against the ash, and in the catch er's mitt, will soon resound as twelve frams of the Knee Pants League swings Into action. The adult managers, and the sponsors of the individual teams, Will meet Wednesday nisht nt Mm Hazel wood town hall and discuss the last-minute details for the league swinging into full action on May 25th. The schedule committee, in mak ing a tentative report recently, suggested play to begin May 25th, with three days per week, and two games each of the three days. All teams would play once a week, The present schedule runs eleven hTe present schedule runs eleven weeks, or a 66-game season for the league. E. C. Wagenfeld, president of the league, has asked that all man agers and sponsori to attend the meeting Wednesday night, when the unfinished details will be com pleted. Among the matters to claim the attention of the group will be the question of admission charges. The estimated operating cost of the league for the season was set at $312. Each sponsor is navins flip cost of uniforming his team, while me league must furnish the balls, bats, bases, and other necessary items. The largest two single items include five dozen balls ($105) and six bats for each team, at a cost of $144. Fishermen Getting Set For Season Opening In btate btreams Sunday Dates for fishing in National .Forest trout streams were an nounced yesterday by D. J. Mor rls, supervisor of Pisgah National Forest. The areas open for supervised fishing in Pisgah are Mt. Mitchell, Daniel Boone, Rich Laurel, Sher wood and Pisgah game preserve. In Nantahala National Forest, the open areas will be Standing Indian, Fires Creek, Wayah Bald and Santeetlah. Cliffside Lake in Nantahala will be open from June 1 to August 31. DeWeese, and Jimmy Kuykendall brought home the honors in the sports division of the Fifth Annual High School Field Day held at Cullowhee Col lege, Thursday. All three of the boys are sports stars at Waynesville High School, and Sutton and Kuykendall are seniors this year. DeWeese is only a junior. Sutton was the high Individual scorer in the affair, and won sev eral first and second places, as did DeWeese. Kuykendall came in second in the baseball throw for accuracy, being defeated by Charles Car penter, of Canton. DeWeese was second in the standing broad Jump, and the 50 yard dash. He was first in the 100 yard dash. ; Sutton was first in the football throw for accuracy, and the foot ball throw for distance. He was second In the football kick for dis tance. DeWeese. ran the 100-yard dash in 10.8 seconds for his first Dlacp honor. ' Sutton kicked 27 points, accur ately, and threw the football 5fi yards, 1 foot, 10 inches, for his awara. The total points acaulred bv thp boys was 17. Canton was awarded tirst place with 24 points, and Waynesville came in second.
