Make Over $200
On Goat Hangers
Central Eliementary School stu
dents have made $204 50 for their
school in a coat-hanger drive that
lasted one week! I
The hangers, more than 20,000 of ;
Ihem. were purchased by the Wav-!
nesville Laundry at the rate of one
cent each. They were delivered in
three pick-up truck loads.
The coat hanger drive was start
ed after the Parent-Teacher Associ-1
ution of the school decided against
holding the annual Halloween Car-;
nival. j
According to Claude Rogers,
school principal, every student
worked enthusiastically and each
than 1.000 hangers. Miss Edna
Boyd's class had the largest count
with 2.920 and Mrs. Garrett's
fout I !i trade was runner-up.
An additional $02.00 was raised

Mrs. Bonner Hay was hostess of
a surprise party Friday afternoon
In her home on South Main Street
in honor of Mrs. F. H. Marley, who
left the next day on the first part
of a trip to Germany to visit her
son and daughter-in-law, St. and
Mrs. Wallace Marley.
The party was in Informal tea
and "bon voyage" slower and the
residence was decorated with ar
rangements of yellow and bronze
Chrysanthemums. "

Daughters of the Conferedacy has
been added to the list of organiza
tions' supporting the school expan
sion program for Haywood County.
1 The chaptes officially went on
record in support of the program
at the November meeting held Fri
day afternoon the home of Mrs.
J. J. Ferguson. Mrs. Sam Queen,
retired president, presided.
': Mrs. R. N. Barber, Sr. gave a re
port of the State, Convention of the
U. D. C which she attended in
Winston-Salem.
The National Convention to be
held this week in Asheville was
discussed and it was announced
that the chapter will add a Kool
foam pillow and several pairs of
shoes to the gifts' to be presented
to the national officers. The shoes
were 'given to thechapter by Well-
co Sh,oe Corporation, -
The chapter wiltbe officially rep
resented at the convention by Mrs.
Roy Campbell, president, Snd Mrs.
C; F. Kij-kpattick, delegate. A num

Home in' Fayetfeville at Thanks

Elementary School have sold 100
boxes of Girl S;out Christmas cards
and stationery as a troop benefit

The girls are planning to start
immediately dressing dolls and
making stuffed toys for distribu
tion at Christmas.
The troops are Nos. 8 and 9 and
tehir leaders are Mrs. Neeson
Smith, Mrs, J. H. Howell, Jr. and
Mrs. Pritchard Smith.

of the Green Valley Baptist Church
at a recent meeting held in the
home of Mrs. Rufus Hyatt. They

Miss Dorothy Bryson and Mrs.
