Decoration Contest To Be Held By Club Plans have been announced for the annual Christmas Decoration Contest sponsored in the com munity by the Richland Garden Club. The contest is open to residents of Waynesville, Hazelwood, and Lake Junaluska and judging will take place Friday night, December 21. $5.00 cash prizes will be awarded for the most attractive window in the business districts, the most at tractive yard decoration,' and the most attractive home decoration as viewed from the outside. TURKEY SUPPORT DES MOINES, la. (AP) The De partment of Agriculture has indi cated, in view of the record large turkey crop U. S. farmers are rais ing this year, that it intends to buy turkeys, if necessary, to keep the market from being overloaded. The department has what it calls a "standby" program under which it would buy large size birds, and distribute them to schools, for lunches, and to some non-profit institutions. The 1950 census count was 10,999. $2,900 Taken Out Of Safe; Man Charged The theft of $2,900 from the Boyd Furniture Store on Main St. has been charged to James Fourncy, colored, of Waynesville, according to Chief of Police Orville Noland. Chief Noland said that Fourney is accused of taking $2,150 from the safe last Monday, and another $750 a few days before that. The suspect had been working aprt time as a janitor at the furniture store. The safe was believed left open at the time of the alleged thefts, Arrested Friday afternoon. Four ney admitted the thefts and paid back money he had not spent. Chief 'Noland said.' lie was bound over to Superior Court after a hearing and released on $1,000 bond. Chief Noland also reported 30 other arrests made during the week-end. Two were for reckless driving, one for speeding, and one for drunk driving. The remainder were for drunkeness. Among arrests made during the week-end by the state highway patrol was the apprehension of five Indians driving on Soco Gap with ars of untaxed whiskey in their car, according to a report made by Patrolman Joe Murrill. Patrolman Murrill stopped the five men in their car Friday night, and found several gallons of whis key and a .22 rifle. The five were identified as Amon- eeta Sequoyah, charged with driv- ng drunk and possession of untax. ed whiskey; Richard Bradley, Sammv Watty, Herbert Swimmer and Jesse Hill, all charged with possession of untaxed whiskey.
