By State UDC A state-wide essay contest on the subject "North Carolina's A.E.F. Ace of World War I," is be ing held by the North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The_contest is open to all children in the schools of North Carolina between the ages of twelve and twenty years and the prize for the winner will be $25.00, to be presented at the convention of the Children of the Confederacy at the University of North Carolina. August 27-28. The award is made possible by Mrs. John Lowe of Lexington in memory of her brother, Col. Opie Linday. The rules for the contest are as follows: Essay must not contain more than 2.000 words, typed, and a bibliography attached; Essay must be signed with a fictitious name. The real name and address of the writer, must be placed in a sealed envelope and clipped to | Uie essay. Fictitious name and j subject- must Ve written? om the outside of the envelope plainly and also listed on the inside of the envelope. (Col. Darnell, craft leaders, displayed articles which they had made at the County handicraft workshop and announced plans for club workshops. The church was decorated, with white gladioli and fern with barnched candelabra, and the vows were spoken before an arch en twined with greenery and white gladioli blossoms. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Wayne Caldwell. Her ballerina length gown was of pale blue iridescent taffeta ar.d she wore a finger-tip veil of the same color. She carried a white Bible with a purple-throated white or chid. Mrs. Oliver Early, matron of honor, wore a dress of lavendar organdy with a white hat and car ried a bouquet of yellow gladioli and purple asters tied with a yel low bow. Miss Lois Ann Caldwell, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Her dress was of yellow organdy and she wore a white hat and car ried a bouquet of yellow gladioli and purple asters tied with a laven der bow. Paul Justice of Spartanburg, S C.. was best man and ushers were Eugene Craig, Jr.. brother of the bridegroom, and Charles Wal ton. The mother of the bride wore a navy and white linen dress with white accessories and her corsage was of pink roses. The bride groom's mother wore a dress of light blue larc with a corsage of red roses. The couple left after the cere mony for a short wedding trip. For traveling the bride wore a grey summer suit with blue and white accessories and the orchid from her Bible. Mrs. Craig is a graduate of Waynesville High School and Ashe ville Beauty Academy. Sh< is now employed at Joan's Beauty Shop here. Mr. Craig, also a graduate of the Waynesville High School, recently returned from Germany where he served in the Armv.
