Folk Festival Sets Contest Varieties Plana are going forward for the sixth annual Canton VFW Folk Festival scheduled for the Canton High School football stadium the frtghta of July 16, 17 and 18. There will be a wfrfr yarjptvpf, contests m square aanTOig.Tunc OTncIng, ftp dancing, acrobatic dancing, string bands, fiddling, banjo pick ing, singing and beauty contests. Valuable gate and performance prizes will be awarded to winners. Tbere will be two beauty con tests again this year, one for bath ing beauties and the other for the title of Square Dance Queen. For the latter contest each competing square dance team will nominate' an 'entry. There will be three divisions in the square dance competition this year: Smooth, Clog and Junior. Preliminaries will be held Thurs day and Friday nights, with finals for Saturday night. Talent director C. C. Poindexter is already receiving entries in the various contests and asks that all others interested contact him at i an early date. The annual event is sponsored by Canton VFW Post No. 5188. Handicraft Guild Features Artisans In Demonstrations Skilled crafsmen from seven southern mountain states will gath er in Ashevllle July 20-24 for the sixth annual Craftsman's Fair. They will demonstrate skills vary ing from wood-carving, weaving and glass-blowing to broom-mak ing and pottery. The fair is sponsored by the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild, numbering 226 craftsmen.
