Crowder Miss Barbara Jane Lowe and Richard Joseph Crowder were married in a double ring ceremony Saturday evening, August 22 at 8 o'clock in Wesley Memorial Church, High Point. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Walter J. Miller, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Kenneth Goodson, pastor of the First Meth odist Church. ? The brid? Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lowe of High Point aqft. the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. H. J, Crowder, also of High Point, and the late Mr. Crowder. The vow* were spoken by candle light before the altar banked with baskets of white gladioli and ast ers, palms, fern, and southern smilax. A prelude of music was present ed by Miss Alyse Smith of Burling ton, organist and Miss Mildred Crowdtr, soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white Chantilly lace over white satin. The fitted bodice featured a sweetheart neckline and long sleeves, ending in calla points over j the hands. The bouffant skirt was fashioned at nylon tulle with panel inserts of Chantilly lace. The fing er-tip veil of nylon illusion was caught to a pearl embroidered ChantHly lace cap and she carried a cascade bouquet of white rose buds and fluer d'amour, centered with a white orchid. Mrs, George D. Tyler of Orange burg, S. C., aunt of the bride, was matron of honor and bridesmaids were ^-Miss Lettie Harper of Charlsfeton, S. C.. Miss Joan Doug | las of Spartanburg, S. C., Mrs. Harry Pickett of Hickory, Mrs. Jennings Agner of Durham, Miss Barbara Smart of Charlotte, and i Miss Joan Crowder, sister of the j bridegroom. Junior bridesmaids was Sharon Finch, young daugh ? ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown Finch of Thomasville, niece of the I bridegroom. Norine Smoak, cousin of the . bride, of Ft, Benning, Ga. was i flower girl. ? The attendants wore identical ; dresses in a new fall shade of ! green, fashioned with strapless i bodice of lace over taffeta, and ? bouffant taffeta skirts and taffeta : stoles. They wore bands of green taffeta leaves in their hair and carried bouquets of American Beauty roses. The flower girl wore white net over white taffta and carried a white satin-covered bas ket. John Crowder of Brevard was his brother's best man and ushers were A. P. Pearson of Neenah, Wis., James D. Lawrence of Mac on, Ga., Kermit Cloniger of Thomasville, George W. Lowe, Jr., Doyle Masters of Livingston, Tenn., and Maxey Crowder, broth er of the bridegroom. Both Mr. and Mrs. Crowder are well-known in this community, having spent several summer sea sons at Lake Junaluska. Mr. Crowder served as recreational di rector at the Lake for three years prior to this summer. The bride was graduated from Winthrop College. Rock Hill, S. C. whore she was a member of the Glee Club and Sextette and was May Queen in 1952. She was also I Methodist Women To Attend Mission School Several members of the Wo man's Societ> of Christian Service of Methodist churches in the coun ty left today to attend a School of Missions at Greensboro College. Greensboro. Those going were Miss Louise Ballard, Miss Ray Ballard. Mrs. R. C. Ellis. Mrs. H. G. Allen, Mrs. J. E. Yountz, Mrs. J. R. Westmoreland, Mrs. Marvin Alexander, Mrs. Ralph Evans. Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Bill Kinsland, Mrs. Bert Cagle, Mrs. Bill Boone, Mas. E. C. Cooke. Mrs. V. E. Wilson, Mrs. Millard Ferguson, and Mrs. David Edwards. -Joining this group will be other mehibers In the W^ynesvitle Dis ; trict, including Miss Laura Jones, district president, of Franklin. elected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. The bridegroom will enter his second year at the Divinity School of Duke University this fall. He was graduated from Duke in 1952 and was a member of the varsity basketball team and president'of his senior class. He was a member of the Student Government, mem ber of the Judicial Board, Red Friars, Omicron Delta Kappa, re ceived the Robert E. Lee and Syd ney Algernon Sullivan awards, was a member of Kappa Alpha social fraternity and was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Following a wedding trip to Florida the ^couple will reside at 1018 Rosehill Ave., Durham. Among the out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Warren, the latter a sister of the bridegroom, of Waynesville, Jerry Alexander of Canton, and Keener Smathers of Greensboro and Lake'Junaluska. Richland Garden Club Meets With Mrs. Smathers A luncheon meeting of the Rich land Garden Club was held Thurs day in the home of Mrs. John Smathers, Jr. on , the Fair view Road. Other hostesses were Mrs. Johq Smathers, Sr., and Mrs. How ard Bryson. Following luncheon a round-table discussion was held on the recent flower show held by the club. Mrs. James R. Boyd, vice president, pre sided. Announcemnt was made of the appointment of Miss Louise Bal lard as director of District l of the State Federation of Garden Clubs. Gpests for the afternoon were Mrs. L. J. Ballard, Mrs. B. P. Bev ille, Mrs. Paul Blackwell, Mrs. Frank Reock of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. W. H. Sherman and Mrs. F. C. Phillips, sisters of Mrs. Smathers, Sr. of St. Petersburg, Fla. ? Miss Ray Ballard presided at the luncheon table which was cen tered with an arrangement of mix ed garden flowers. * ? * Mountain View Club To Meet Thursday A regular meeting of the Moun tain View Garden Club will be held Thursday in the home of Mrs. Irving Leatherwood with Mrs. Joe Cathey and Mrs. Fred Hyatt as co hostesses. A luncheon at 12:30 p.m. will precede the business session. Mrs. William Norrls will present the program on "Autumn Lawn Care". | Clyde Lions Have Ladies' Night Program The Clyde Lions Club held ? a Ladles' Night program and dinner Friday night at the Central Meth odist Church. Carlton Corxine, president, pre sided and the program was in' charge of Larry Cagle, Grover Hayi.es, and Bruce Leatherwood. Entertainment was furnished by Miss Jewel Rhinehart as ''Flaming Mamie" and Miss Geraldine Fish as "Clara Belle Tooth," who gave fheir interpretation of a silent movie.' Robert Matthews of Canton, for-! mer director of the Canton High School band, played an original humorous piano composition, "The Prince Bandit". ? Following the program, pins were awarded to the following members who had ?a perfect attend ance record for the past year; G. C. Haynes, A. R. Leatherwood, C. C. Matthews, William Osborne. Larry Cagle, Robert Corzine, Carl ton Corzine, and John Bramlett. Around fifty members and their \ wives and friends were present, in cluding Mrs. Robert Matthews of Canton. * * * Twp Churches Will - Observe Joint | Homecoming Day - A joint Homecoming program will be held by the Maple Grove j Methodist Chureh and the Barber ville Baptist Church Sunday, Sep tember 6. Members of the two churches and their families and friends will! assemble at the Maple Grove j church .at 11:15 a.m. and will be . welcomed by the Rev. Jarvis j Brock. Mrs. Isabel Walker will I serve as pianist for congregational! singing and the Rev. A. B. Dennis will give the invocation. Special music will be presented by the Barberville choir under' the lead ership of J. Schulhoffer, John M. Queen will discuss plans for the maintenance of the com munity cemetery. A picnic lunch will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by a period | of fellowship, and a program of music will begin at 2 p.m. At 2:30 p.m. the Rev. James Coleman will speak after which pastors and visitors will be recog nized. Music will be presented by the Shelton trio, Rowland quartet, and others from 3:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Jonathan Residents * ? Plan Shower For Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Residents of the Jonathan Creek Community are planning a miscel laneous shower to be held Satur day night for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boyd, whose home was completely destroyed by fire about two weeks ago. ? The shower will be held in the Jonathan Creek school, beginning at a oclock. Everyone is invited. ? ? * Wesleyan Guild Will Meet Tuesday Night The Wesleyan Service Guild of the First Methodist Church will meet Tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock in the home of Mrs. Harry Whisert hunt. Kathleen Calhoun Resumes Dance Classes Classy* for tgo dancing, ballet, ballroom dancing, and acrobatics have been resumed at the Kathleen Calhoun School of Dance, accord ipg to an announcement by Miss Calhoun. MYF To Have Supper For College Group The Youth Fellowship of the First Methodist Church will have a covered dish supper at the church Wednesday night at 6:30 o'clock honoring the members who are leaving for college.
