Holiday House Tour Will. Be Held Friday, 18th The Holiday House Tour, spon sored by the Richland Garden Club, originally set for Thursday has been postponed until Friday, De cember 18, according to an an nouncement by Mrs. J. M. Long, chairman of the event. The date was changed on ac count of the concert of the Waynes ville High School Band and Chorus which will be held Thursday night. Four homes and the Waynesville Country Club will be open to the public during the hours from 3 un til 5 o'clock in the afternoon and from 7:30 until 9:30 o'clock in the evening. The homes_to be visited are those of Mrs. Robert Turnef, Mrs. Ralph Prevost, Mrs. Harry Whisenhunt, and Mrs. J. H. Smath ers, Jr. Miss Lou Elva Eller will be hostess at the Country Club. Each place will be elaborately dec orated inside and out in keeping with its style of architecture. Tickets may be purchased at all places and visitors may begin the tour from any point. Members of the garden club are assisting with the preparation of decorations and* will assist in re ceiving as follows: Miss Eller will be assisted by Mrs. J. M. Long, Mrs. M. G. Stamey, Mrs. J. H. Howell. Mrs. James R. Boyd, Mrs. J. P. Dicus, Miss Anne Albright, and Miss Louise MacFadyen. Receiving with Mrs. Prevost will be Mrs. W. F. Swift, Mrs. R. L. Prevost, Sr., Mrs. Roy Parkman, Mrs. T. L. Gwyn, Mrs. R. H. Stret cher, and Miss Nancy Killian. " Mrs. Smathers will be assisted by Mrs. J. W. Ray, Mrs. F. G. Rip petoe, Mrs. J. H. Smathers, Sr., Mrs. W. B. Haviland, Mrs. W. L. Mrs. Irving Leather wood, and Mrs. Joe Cathey. * * * Nurses Club Will Have Christmas Party The Haywood County Nurses Club will have a Christmas party Tuesday, December 22, at 7:30 p. m. with Mrs. Finney Timbes and Mrs. Ernest Edwards as hostesses in the home.of Mrs. Timbes on,. Meadow Street. Each member is expected to bring a gift for exchange. , * ? * Miss Vclma Stamey and Miss Phyllis Helen Noland will arrive Friday from Jefferson City, Ten nessee where they are students at Carson-Newman College. They will spend the holidays with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stamey and Mr. and Mrs. John C. Noland. ? * ? Woman's College students, who are expected during the next two days to join their parents for the Christmas holidays are Miss Mary Crouser. ' Mrs. Cowart Is Elected Head Of Canton Home Club Mrs. Walter Cowart was elected president of the Canton Homemak ers Club at a meeting Tuesday af ternoon in the home of Mrs. James B. Hurley. Other new officers are Mrs. Frank Vokes, 1st vice president; Mrs. John Morgan. 2nd vice presi dent; Mrs. Wesley Holtzelaw, sec retary; and Mrs. Frank Mease, Jr., treasurer. Hostesses with Mrs. Hurley were Mrs. Woodrow Williams, Miss Vir ginia Holtzelaw. Mrs. Charles A. Smith, Mrs. Loretta Harris, Mrs. Edwin Hyatt, Miss Eugenia Holtz elaw, and Mrs. Walter Cowart. Mrs. E. E. Conley, retiring presi dent, presided and Mrs. Carolyn Withers was welcomed as a new member. Cothing leaders' reports with gift suggestions were made by Mrs. John Morgan and Mrs. Eleanor Jaycocks. Craft leaders reported a total of eleven workshops held this month with a total attendance of 127. Reading certificates were pre sented as follows: Haywood County, Mrs. Louis Duke; advanced certifi cates, Mrs. Ray Foster and Mrs. J. B. Hurley; regular, Mrs. N. C. The demonstration on Planning for Christmas was given by Miss Mary Cornwell after which refresh ments were served. * ? * Pvt. Neil Howell Is Assigned To Finance School Pvt. Neil Teague Howell has just completed eight weeks of basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. and has been assigned to Finance School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis for training as finance cierk. While at Fort Jackson. Pvt. How ell was with the Service Company of the 61st Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division. He served as squad leader and assistant instruc tor on the rifle range. Pvt. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Howell of Route 2, Waynes ville. * * * Maple Grove Will Have Program And Reception "The Scarlet Ribbon," a Christ mas play-pageant in three parts, will be presented at the Maple Grove Methodist Church, Decem ber 20. at 7 p.m. Immediately following the play, a reception will be held in honor of the pastor, the Rev. Christmas Dance Will Be Colorful Social Event Glitter and gaiety will mark the Christmas dance which will be held by the Beta Sigma Phi soror ity Saturday night in the Waynes ville armory. The decorations will feature a huge Christmas tree in the center of the ball room and vari-colored spotlights will be focused on hundreds of Christmas; balls. Music for the dance will be furnished by Ted Lampley and his Cavaliers of Hendersonville. I Methodist Church School Has Dinner Members of the Adult Depart ment of the Sunday School of the First Methodist Church and their families met Wednesday night for a covered dish supper in the din ing room of the church. The tables were decorated with holly and red candles and the win dows each held a small Christmas tree, while a large tree was fea tured with gifts. W. S. Roberts, Sunday School superintendent, served as master of ceremonies and presented gifts to Mrs. W. L. Matney, church or ganist, who was observing her sev enty-ninth birthday; Fred Wal ston, teacher of a men's class, who is moving away from Waynesville; and to the Rev. Earl H. Brendall, pastor of the church, and Mrs. Brendall. Gifts were also presented to the Sunday school teachers and other church school officials. Following the program, a collec tion was taken for a Christmas cheer fund for needy families which amounted to $209.00. Carols were sung by various groups with Miss Kathleen Nash and Mrs. Fred Campbell as solo ists. ' * ? * Weekend Events Are Planned At Bethel School A full program of events has been announced by the Bethel High School. ? Tonight at 7:30 o'clock the jun ior class will present a play, "Let 'er Go Gallagher." The cast in cludes Charles Stamey, Sue Kel ley, Oleen Massie, Joan Cooke, Wanda Inman, David Vance, Ger ald Henson, Gail Revis, and Billy Terrell. Friday night at 7:30 o'clock a Christmas party for high school students will be held in the gym nasium. Members of the faculty will be hosts and will serve re freshments. A Christmas tree will be featured and the group will sing carols. Riley of the carrier Point Cruz, lying oft Oppama, Japan. Taken to the hospital ship Consolation for a checkup, George was at tended by ship's doctor, Lt. Hugh C. Keenan, of Spokane, Wash., who immediately arranged for the waif's adoption. (International) Mrs. M. B.
