Stationed In Puerto Rico

RICO?Army Cpl, Eugene D. Price,
20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A.
Price, Hazelwood, recently arrived
in Puerto Rico and is now assigned
to duty at Fort Buchanan.
Corporal Price, a driver with
the 546th Transportation Company,
arrived in Puerto Rico from an as
signment at Fort Leonard Wood,
Mo. He entered the Army in May
1953.
No Interpreters Needed
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (AP)?The
Pacific Fleet Training Command
scurried around for interpreters
when told the Pakistan Mine
sweeper Muhafiz was coming for
training in American Navy ways.
When the ship arrived, its skip
per, Lt. Cmdr. Mak Dodi said: "We
look forward to visiting this com
munity. We've heard a lot about
it."
He and all the crew speak Eng
lish. tie said it was a Pakistan
navy requirement.
Thickety CDP Stages Outdoor Meeting At Park
An interesting program was en
joyed at the Recreation Park
Thursday evening when the CDP
held the first outdoor meeting of
the year. A covered dish supper
was enjoyed around the open fire
place preceding the program and
business.
T. J. Fletcher presided while
several improvement projects were
discussed. Plans were completing
for repainting all the mail boxes
in the community. Those not pres
ent at the meeting are asked to
cooperate in this project by paint
ing his own mail box. The plan is
"each one paint one". Several
committees were nanted to con
tact box owners in his respective
neighborhood and ask them to
paint their box and post.
Plans for planting the roadside
around the park area were also
discussed.
Following the business, Miss
Mary Cornwell, Home Demonstra
tion Agent, gave a talk on Land
scaping?the home grounds and
also the Community Park. She
showed slides illustratis* the cor
rect and Incorrect manner of land
scaping. '

tertained a group of friends at an
outdoor steak supper Saturday
evening. v
James Parham who graduated
at Carson-Newman College last
week, is spending a few days with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Parham, Sr., before taking work
for the summer in the state of
Washington.
Mr. and Mrs N. V. Medford had
as their guests last week, their
daughter. Mrs. Alan Pittard and
bovs of Du'uth, Ga., and Mrs.

College last week, has joined her
husband in Newport News, Va.
The Wcsleyan Service Guild of
Rockwood Church will meet Thurs
day, June 16, at the home of Miss
Kate Williamson at 7:30 p.m.
Several home improvements are
underway in the community. Mr.
and Mrs. Troy Ford have complet
ed changes in their home, includ
ing a bath room; the W. M. Wil
liamsons have remodeled their
kitchen, put on asbestos shingles,
and otherwise remodeled their
home, and the John Whitteds are
remodeling thpir living room.

Well drillers have enjoyed a
good business in this community
the past year. With the drought of
two summon, the water supply
went down making it necessary to
dig deeper wells. Among the re
cent ones added to half dozen or
more of last summer, are at George
Wright, J. C. Sorrell. Grady Tran
tham, and W. M. Williamson.
The Jarrett Williamsons are
placing materials on the ground
in preparation for re-building their
home which was destroyed by fire
several weeks ago. They expect to
have it ready to occupy by the
time they close their summer busi
ness at Pisgah in the fall.
Miss Jewel Williamson who is a
senior in the School of Nursing at
Watts Hospital. Durham, has com
pleted a two weeks' vacation here,
and gone to a Raleigh hospital to
do special work as a last phase of
her training. She is to graduate
the first of September.
Mrs. Ray Cope entertained a
group of children at her home
Saturday afternoon, honoring her
son, J. R., on his 6th birthday. The
guests included Linda, Mike and
Kathy Jimison, Luanna Ford,
Brandy and Sandy Ivester, Nancy,
Lufile and David Jimison, Carol
Nix, Dearl Ford, Ruth Ann and
Doris Jimison, Kenneth Cope, Jr.,
Dale, Terry and David Cope.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Parham, Sr.
spent the week end in Durham,
where they attended the capping
ceremonies in which their daugh
ter, Virginia, a student nurse at
Watts Hospital, received her cap.
They were accompanied by Mrs.
Dennis Milner.
The Vacation Bible School open
ed at Oak Grove Baptist Church
Monday for a two weeks session.
