State troopers arrested 2.362 over 55 mph speeders in August tlje Motor Vehicles Department has reported. In its monthly report pf traffic violations not requiring the sus pension o[ driving privileges, the agency also reported 863 arrests for driving without a license, 638 for faulty mechanical equipment, 630 for reckless driving and 580 for ignoring a stop sign. Miscellaneous violations brought the month's total of arrests to 6, 737. Thiscompares to 5.889 through the same date last year. The department also mailed 2, 228 warning letters to motorists convicted once of reckless driving or speeding over 55 mph. A second such conviction within a year means suspension of their driver's license.
