Club riding, in specially decorated
cars, a number of floats, National
Guard units from Canton and
Waynesville and several high
school bands?including the jun
ior and senior bands of Waynes
ville Township High School, sen
ior majorettes and the "Mountain
ette" junior majorettes. (The
WTHS musicians also marched in
Hendersonville Monday for the Ap
ple Festival.)
For the first time in several
years Reuben B. Robertson. Sr.,
chairman of the board of directors
and president of the Champion
Paper and Fibre Co., appeared in
the parade, riding in an old model
Ford, owned and driven by Julian
Smathers of Clyde.
He was accompanied by H. E.
Helder, vice president and general
manager of the Carolina division:

ioned Way" and the attics through
out the county have been searched '
for the dresses and shoes of days 1

for the past several weeks in pre

Arrested During
August In N. C.
State troopers arrested 2.362 over
55 mph speeders in August tlje
Motor Vehicles Department has
reported.
In its monthly report pf traffic
violations not requiring the sus
pension o[ driving privileges, the
agency also reported 863 arrests
for driving without a license, 638
for faulty mechanical equipment,
630 for reckless driving and 580
for ignoring a stop sign.
Miscellaneous violations brought
the month's total of arrests to 6,
737. Thiscompares to 5.889 through
the same date last year.
The department also mailed 2,
228 warning letters to motorists
convicted once of reckless driving
or speeding over 55 mph. A second
such conviction within a year
means suspension of their driver's
license.
