STANTON CECIL, JR., has been named regional sales manager for Koolfoam cushioning, foam rub ber division, the Dayton Robber Co. Cecil will have his headquarters in High Point, and will work close ly with the company's sales offices headed by G. V. Soper, sales man ager. A native of High Point and a graduate of the University of North Carolina, School of Com merce, Mr. Cecil will contact fur niture and allied fields for cushion ing sales throughout the southeast. 3-Point Program Asked By NCEA For Next Year The first endorsement of the three-point legislative program of the North Carolina Education Asso ciation came today from the legis lative committee of the Division of Classroom Teachers of the NCEA. The three-point program en dorsed by the Classroom Teachers is: (1) A salary scale of $2600 to $4100 for a four year college gradu ate with an A certificate: (2) An extended term of em ployment of two weeks for teach ers and principals: (3> Clerical assistance for schools. The NCEA program stated. "The Imperative need of public educa tion is to provide an adequate num ber of properly qualified' teachers." The Classroom Teacher endorse ment emphasized this need. "The legislative committee of the Classroom Teacher Division gives unanimous endorsement to the pro gram. for we beleve that eaeh of the three points will help attract promising young people into the profession." stated Mrs. J. L. Mar chairman. Classroom Teach er legislative committee. Needhatn Broiishton High. Raleigh. The first point in the program, teacher salary, was named by the classroom teachers as the best means by which to relieve the alarming shortage of qualified teachers. "Good teachers realize that salaries must be increased if promising young people are to en ter and remain in the profession," said one member of the committee. '?We must ask for increased in come. or we can never compete with business and other profes sions for the type personnel that the children of North Carolina de serve as teachers. The additional needs named by the NCEA as essential to the im provement of education also re received the endorsement of the classroom teachers. ? DAVID R. MEIER has been nam ed technical service manager for the Dayton Rubber Company's foam rubber division, it is an nounced by G. V. Soper, sales Mr. Meier has been associated with the rubber industry more than twelve years. In recent years he has contacted furniture manu facturers and distributors through out the southeast in his capacity as field, sales and technical assistance manager for a major rubber com pany. He will serve the furniture mar kets throughout the southeast. A native of Detroit, Mr. Meier holds a B.8. degree In chemistry from the University of Buffalo. I Modest Settlement WAUKEGAN, 111 <APV-Johnny Coloaimo, 11, had a car mishap with his new bike and was the central figure In a $29,000 injury suit brought by his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Vlink. Johnny's attorney, William J. Crowley, asked the youngster to lower his trousers and show the jury scars on his left thigh resulting from the accident. Johnny refused twice to take his pants down before the women Jurors with a couple of "Uh-ubs." Judge Bernard M. Decker said: "I think the lad's uaiag good sense." The Jury of six men and six * women awarded Johnny $9,000. Moose Goes To Town SAULT STE. MARIE. Mich. (AP) ?A moose has been added to Sault Ste. Marie's long list of visi tor*. Deer and bear frequently stroll into (own from surrounding woods. A moose was spotted only three blocks from downtown. It was the first one seen on city Streets. Bethel High Team Wins FFA Tool-Judging Contest A team representing the Bethel chapter of the Future Fanners of America won the tool-judging con test sponsored by the Balaam Fed eration of the FFA last week at Waynesville High School. Members of the Bethel team were Eddie Wells, Charles Brown, James Pressley, Kenneth Neal, J. L. Parham, and Ted Inman. Sylva was second. Fines Creek was third, Waynesville foprth, and Crabtree fifth. The contest involved the iden tification of 218 tools used in vari ous trades and Industries and also the naming of certain oils and Woodmen Of The World To Meet Tuesday Night Waynesville Woodmen of the World lodge will meet at 7:80 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion hall, it has been announced. Principal speaker on the pro gram. to be observed as Ladies Night, will be a representative of the Woodmen's Circle from Hen dersonville. woods. As the federation winner.
