Bethel High
Blue Demon Tales
<> , .......
Last Thursday morning when I
walked into the old gymnasium I
found, much to my surprise, that
everyone was sitting quietly look
ing at an open book in their hands.
They seemed to be in deep con
centration concerning some dire
tragedy that had recently taken
place.
However when I entered my
homeroom, much to my astonish
ment and horror, 1 learned that
exams were here. Walking into
Bethel School during exam time
is like walking through an aban
doned cemetery at midnight.
The faculty members stay In
their homes at night for two weeks
dreaming up the catastrophic ques
tionalre. Every morning when a
member of the faculty entered his
room, the door was opened by
some gallant student with two F's
and a C ? the first three grading
periods. When he reaches his desk,
which is hard to find because of
the huge array of flowers and
fruits which adorn the entire top,
he is seated by a young lady who
has acquired two C's and an F
during the course of the year, and
had not studied the night before.
But now, finis is written to that
period of trials and -tribulations
which Interrupt our pleasant ven
ture in school twice each year to
make half of the student body
nervous wrecks (the other half
has no nerves >.
For the seniors it is a time of
reminiscing over the many accom
plishments they have made and
the many happy years they have
spent while at "Dear Old Bethel."
But for the underclassman it is a
nostalgic scene, not because they
are thinking someday of leaving
their Alma Mater, but because
they are wondering if the time
will ever come when they can dust
off their hooves and journey to
greener pastures.

Phillip Edwards
Is Example Of
A True Friend
True friendship comes rarely
and is a priceless gift.
Such friendship was manifested
by Phillip Edwards, young son of
Mr. and Mrs. James Edwards of
Bethel, when he left his family and
school to accompany his buddy,
LeRoy George, to a hospital in
Nashville where the latter under
went an unsuccessful heart opera
tion.
Phillip stayed by his friend un
til he went into the operating room.
The two boys played, told Jokes,
and laughed together as they had
on many happier occasions.
In speaking of Phillip's loyalty.
LcRoy's parents, the Rev. ano Mrs.
L. B. George said, "There is no
way to estimate the help Phillip
was to LeRoy and to us. too. and we
will be forever grateful to him and
the Edwards family."
LeRoy died shortly after the
operation.
