Cherokee Indians
Two guests from the Cherokee
Indtap.&tpervation presented the

nesyllle Women's Club Thursday
afternoon in the dining room of
the First Methodist Church
The speakers were Mrs. Nan
Smith, native Cherokee, and Mrs.
Arneach, a teacher in the Chero
kee scbpoi. They exhibited crafts
and objects.of art made on the
reservation. including woven
mate, wood carving, basketry, and
dolis.
. Mrs. Smith discussed the cus
toms of the Cherokee today as
compared to customs during her
eerly childhood, and answered
questions asked by her audience.
Mrs Roy Campbell, grand
daughter of Col. Will Thomas,
famous fHOnd and apodted son of
the Cherokee, displayed papers
relative to the Indians which had
belonged to her grandfather.
A book display was shown from
the Haywood County Library's
collection on Cherokee history.

Life," and was planned by Mrs. W.
W Jonel Mrs Hugh Ratcliffe, and
Mrs. Lynn Henshaw. Events In the
life of ? Mr. Barringer were por
trayed.
A birthday cake was featured
and the. guest of honor was pre
sented an unabridged dictionary.

mums showered with streamers.

The couple left for a wedding
trip thraugh Florida For travelling
the bride wore a brown sheath
dress and Jacket, beige accessories
and the corsage of roses from her
bouquet. They will make their
home in Ridgecrest.

served three years in the Marine
Corps. He is now a student at West
ern Carolina College.
