Town And Country Garden Club Meets With Mrs. Peyton The Town and Country Garden Ctub of Canton met Monday night In the home of Mrs. Carlton Pey ton on Pennsylvania Ave. Miss Doris Plott was associate hostess. Mrs. Don Hall was a guest. Mrs. Carl E. Powell, president, presided and made the announce ment that the N. C. State Garden Club Convention will be held Feb ruary 1 and 2. at the Carolina Ho tel In Ptnehurst. Mrs. Albert P, Cline, Jr., report ed on a recent meeting of the Can ton Council of Garden Clubs. Mrs. William C. Freel presented a program on "House Plants". Ar rangements. featuring fruits and vegetables, were displayed by Mrs. CUne, Mrs. J. L. Setter, and Mrs. J. C. Devlin, Refreshments were served by the hostesses. Patsy Ann Davis Is Married To W. E. Messer Miss Patsy Ann Davis and Wil liam Edgar Messer were married Saturday, January 21, at 6 p.m. In the home of the Rev. D. D Rus sell, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church, with Mr. Russell officiat ing. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis of Waynes ville, Route 4 and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs W. L. Messer, al so of Waynesville. Route 4, and the late Mr. Messer. For the ceremony the bride wore a street-length linen dress design ed with off-shoulder neckline, short sleeves, and full skirt. Her corsage was of white roses. The parents of the bride enter tained with an informal reception following the ceremony. Assisting were Mrs. Carl Davis, Mrs. Rowe Ledford, and Miss Jane Davis. After a short wedding trip the couple will make their home in Waynesville. For traveling the bride wore an acoua knit suit with black accessories and the bridal corsage. Mrs Messer is a graduate of the Fines Creek High School. Mr. Messer. also a graduate of the Fines Creek High School, is en gaged in farming, ? * ? Miss Johnston Is Honored By B and PW Club Tlie Waynesvllle Business and Professional Women's Club hon ored Miss Margaret Johnston, Hay wood County librarian, at a meet ing Tuesday night at The Lodge.' A charter member and past pres ident it the local club and second vice president of the B and PW Clubs of North Carolina. Miss Johnston has resigned the position she has held in the library for fourteen years, to accept a similar post in Rockingham County. Presentation of gifts and a stunt commemorating Miss Johnston's career and her contribution to the growth of the county library mark ed the occasion. A film on the history, design, and manufacture of sterling silver was shown by Miss Mary Cornwell and Miss Margaret Boyd. New members were welcomed as follows- Mrs. Dewey Hyatt. Ranger of the Blue Ridge Parkway, was the guest speaker at a luncheon meet ing of the Canton Garden Club Tuesday in the home of Mrs. A. P. Cline on Pennsylvania Avenue. Mrs. Fred Ferguson was associate hostess. Mr. Howell was introduced by Mts. J. R. Westmoreland who was In charge of the program. His sub ject was "Conservation of Wild Life". He illustrated his talk with colored slides of animal and plant life of Western North Carolina. He explained the duties of the forest ranger, which include the conservation of scenery, natural and historic objects, and wild life. Among the pictures shown were the unusual painted four petal trilliura tnd the shooting star. Mrs. A. W. Bottoms announced plans for the annual Canton Flow er Show to be held August 16 and 17 in the Canton Armory. It was reported that Mrs. Charles Branson, chairman of gar den therapy committee, distribut ed favors to each patient in the Haywood County Hospital at Christmas. Several members displayed un usual specimens of evergreens. Miniature arrangements were judged, and a blue ribbon went to Mrs. J. B. Hurley. Mrs. Cedric A. Wayne Rogers Wins Honor With Blue Cross Wayne Rogers has been named "Top Man of the Year" in his divi sion of the Blue Cross Hospital Care. He and Mrs. Rogers were guests of honor at a banquet given by Blue Cross last week in Dur ham. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers also visited their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
