Cecil Home Club Installs New Officers The Cecil Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday afternoon In the home of Mrs Frank Sorrella with Mks. J. M. Buroette, as co hostesa. Mrs. J. W. West Canton Home Club Plans Activities The West Canton Home Demons tration Club met Thursday after noon in the home of Mrs. Marshall Cooper with Mrs. Ralph Cook as co-hostess. McElrath, chairman, of the Bake Sale for Polio an nounced plans for this activity to be held on Saturday. Mrs. Marshall Cooper reported on the recent County Council meeting. Beck Is Speaker At Garden Club Roy R Beck, work unit conserva tionist with the SoU Conservation Service, was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Richland Garden Club Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs. James L. Elwood. Speaking on SoU Conservation, Berk stated 4hat much of the eco nomic progress of the United States is due to agricultural development. He explained North Carolina's soil and water conservation program and how supervisors help land owners plan a soil program. He also pointed out the increase in land income from these practices. In stressing the importance of con serving land resources, Beck said. "The history of all nations starts in bondage ? then to courage, liberty, abundance, selflshness, complacency, apathy, and back to bondage." The speaker was introduced by Miss Lou Elva Ellcr, who was in charge of the program. Mrs. W. F. Swift presided during the business session. Reports on Christmas ptojects ofthe club were given by Mrs. E. C. Wagenfeld on hospital decorations. Miss Nancy Killian on decorations at the nurs ing home; Mrs. R. Announcement was made that Don Ogden of Asheville, landscape architect, will be the speaker at the February meeting to be held in the home of Mrs. E. C. To serve 8, combine 6 c. sliced, cooked potatoes, 1 c. diced celery, V4 c. diced green pepper, 2 c. thin ly sliced, unpeeled red apples and \\ c. minced onion. Add the dressing and mix well. Arrange on salad greens. To make the dressing, combine and mix well, Vi c. mayonnaise or salad dressing, V? c. heavy sour cream, IVi tsp. salt, few grains pepper, 2 tsp. prepared mustard, tbsp. minced parsley and Vt tsp. pap rika. New Cup Cakes Cup cakes come under the heading of ordinary baking, but lust pass around Apple Pecan Cup Cakes and the classification changes. To bake 10-12 cup cakes, cream % c. shortening and 1 c. firmly packed, light brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add 1 egg and beat well. Stir In Vi e. each, chopped, seedless raisins and broken pecan meats. Mix and sift 2 c. sifted, en riched flour, V4 tsp. salt, Vt tap baking powder, tsp. cinnamon, tsp. nutmeg. Add alternately with Vi c. strong, cold coffee and tsp. vanilla. Stir In 1 e. finely chopped, raw apples mi well-greased maffln pans % full. Bake In moderate oven (350*'F.) 30 mln. Painting the Lily If you want to paint the Illy, frost with confectioners' sugar Icing to which a little cinnamon Is added and garnish with Whole pecan nuts. Apple Ambrosia Is a healthful and delicious fruit dessert To serve 6, core 2 large red apples, but do not pare. Cut-Into thin slices. Score 2 ripe, peeled bananas with tines of fork; slice.
