This fact was disclosed last week at a joint meeting of Waynesville Canton, and Clyde TB committees to make plans for the chest X-ray survey to be held in the county in June. By comparison. W. Lee McKl | rath reports that Canton has far exceeded its goal and has raised j more than $2,100. Mrs. R R. Campbell, Christ- ' mas Seal sale chairman in the Waynesville area, said that 1.800 | envelopes containing seals were : mailed out, but less than half of j the recipients have sent in their j J money for the TB fund. Dr. Jack Davis, chairman of the Waynesville TB Committee, ex plained that'the local organization did not join the United Fund this year because of the policies of the national and state tuberculosis as sociations. I-ocal TB groups who join the United Fund and fail to conduct ] separate Christmas Seal drives have their charters cancelled and the state headquarters conducts its own drive ? with all money collected going to Raleigh, the doctor pointed out. As it is, most of the money col lected here now from the sale of Christmas seals remains in the Waynesville area, he added Dr. Davis cited the Instance of Wilkes County, which withdrew from the North Carolina Tuber culosis Association, only to have the state headquarters conduct its own drive and raise more money than had been collected in pre vious local campaigns. All the funds given in Wilkes oCunty that year, however, went to the state association. Dr. Davis urged persons who have not sent in their 12 for Christmas seals to make their con tributions so that sufficient money can be raised to finance the chest X-ray survey in Haywood County in June.
