Pvt. Gilliland Now Stationed In Korean Area Pvt. Donald S. Gilliland is now stationed in yong Dong Po, Korea, near Seoul. He volunteered for service June 20, 1955 and received his basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C. af ter which he was transferred to Ft. Belvoir, Va., where he received eight weeks training in engineer ing school. Following his schooling in Vir ginia he *was transferred to Ft. Lewis. Wash., a port of embarka tion, and on December 17 sailed for Japan on the General William Mit chell and completed his voyage on December 31. At his present post his work con sists of servicfcig the refrigeration trucks which supply army and navy personnel in Korea with perish able foods. Pvt. Gilliland is a graduate of the 1954 class of the Waynesville High School and prior to entering the Army was employed at Ray's Supermarket. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gilliland of Waynesville. Beaverdam Club Members Honor Mrs. T. G. Murray Mrs. T. G. Murray was honored with a surprise birthday party Tuesday afternoon by members of the Beaverdam Home Demonstra tion Club, at the regular meeting held at the home of Mrs. Jarrett Williamson. The birthday cake was cut and served along with other refresh ments during the social hour fol lowing the meeting. and each mem ber present?<f a gift to the honoree. who was 75 years old on February 2. Mrs. Murray has been an active member of the club sir.ce it was first organized some 20 years ago, and seldom misses a meeting. The regular mating of the Good Neighbor Club will be held Mon day at the home of Mrs. J. p. and Miss Elizabeth Thompson. The Wesleyan Service Guild of Rockwood Church will hold the regular meeting with Mrs. Gladys Burrell Thursday evening. Febru ary 16. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Walker of Brevard spent the weekend with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Ford. Miss Artie Williamson is a pati ent at the Haywood County Hos pital. Mrs. Ma* Yarborough and baby daughter, Nealia Ann. who have been on the sick list for several days, are improving. The WMU of Oak Grove Baptist Church will meet Thursday of next week, the place to be announced. Graveside rites for Virgil Har ris, of Asheville, a former resident of the community, were held in the Old Thickety Cemetery Saturday afternoon. Mr Harris, 47. was the son of the late Manson and Julia Ford Harris. ? The Brotherhood group of Oak Grove Church met Monday night at the church, with wives of mem bers as guests.
