^=r=r THE WAYNESVIII .F, MOUNTAINEER^^ Grand Jury Finds Schools Of Haywood County To Be In Good Condition Judge Pless Compliments Jury's Work The Grand Jury completed their work and made their report to the court Tuesday afternoon, after handling some 75 bills, and render ing all of them "true bills" accord ing to Harvey Dulin, foreman. Judge J. Will Pless told the 18 members of the grand jury that they had done an "efficient piece of work". A recommendation of the grand jury that a sign be placed over the door of the commissioner's room when the grand jury was in session got prompt attention, as Judge Pless ordered Sheriff Fred Campbell to see that such a sign was painted, and arrangements made for attaching and detaching the large-lettered sign. The report of the grand jury dealt mostly with the schools of the county, together with the court house and jail, and was as follows: COUNTY COURT HOUSE?The Court House is in good condition. The County Jail is clean. There are 16 prisoners. CANTON JAIL?In good condi tion?one prisoner. PRISON CAMP ? The Prison Camp is clean and in good condi tion. There are 75 prisoners. HAYWOOD COUNTY SCHOOLS Waynesvilie High School?(New Building) In good condition. Wyneavilie High School ? (Old Building) Building in good condi tion. New outside doors have been ordered. School yard needs addi tional gravel and paving very bad ly. East WaynesviUe?Floor in cafe taria needs repairing. School build ing in good condition. Leak in old building at entrance to boiler room should be fixed. Central Elementary ? In good condition. Pigeon Street (Colored)?Drink ing fountain needs reairing. A new building is being planned for this school. Aliens Creek?In good condition. Saunook ? In good condition. Should have concrete floor in Cafe teria supply room for a higher Health Department rating. Hazel wood?In good condition. Bethel?i Old High School Build ing)?Six inches water in boiler room. (New Elementary Building) Leak should be repaired. Need hose spigot installed in boys' toilet. Otherwise the new building is in good condition. Doors to cafetera and kitchen need adjusting. Kitch en sink needs repairing. Need new side door to Gymnasium. Auditori um roof and floor need repairing. (Old Elementary Cafeteria): Now being used for music room. Roof and floor need repairing. Cruso?New building now being planned which will eliminate the conditions that need correcting. . Crabtree-Iron Duff ? Ceiling in old building is loose and appears to be dangerous. This should be re paired immediately. New building in good condition. Leak in shop room needs repairing. Clyde?Drveway between river and school should be widened and improved. They are planning to build a craft shop, and a motel on the property in the near future. The Maggie Home Demonstra tion Club held its regular monthly meeting Feb. 2 at the home of Mrs. Barney Woody.
