Willi A V riMDRVl f I man n>a<< Kir ?Ua liratr. 0/ iiunranui vni'it wuum THE STORY of the rich young man who came to Jesus because he was dissatisfied with his life and wanted to insure life eternal Is told by Matthew and Mark as well as Luke. This man was a ruler of the synagogue; he led an upright life, but he was not satisfied, so he sought out Jesus and said to Him, "Good Master, what shall 1 do to inherit eternal life?" JesuS told him to keep the commandments, and he said he had done so all his life. Then Jesus said, "Yet lackest thou one thing; sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou Shalt' have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." The man's wealth and position meant much to him. How could he give them up and become a poor follower of this Man? He felt he could not do so. It was too great a sacrifice. So he went away, sorrowing. His wealth meant more to him than his sal viiiiu iIiciji nao ouviiig kiic ?>?/" side begging. Hearing the multl* tude, he asked what it meant. On hearing that Jesus of Nazareth was passing, the man cried out, "Jesus, Thou son of David, have mercy upon me:" The people rebuked him, but still he cried, and Jesus heard and had him brought to Him, and re* stored his sight saying, "Thy faith hath saved thee." In the city of Jericho there was ft rich publicftn named Zacchaeus. He was the chief official of the tax collectors of the city. He was curious to see Jesus of whom he probably had heard much. Being very short in stature he climbed a sycomore tree so that he could look over the heads of the multi* tude. When Jesus came to the tree He looked up and saw Zacchaeus, and told him to come down for "Today I must abide at thy house." For this Christ's enemies sftid He was the guest of a sinner. Zacchaeus came down quickly and greeted the Lord Joyfully. MEMORY VERSE "Choose you this day uhom ye will serve: . . . but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."?Joshua H :15. vation. but he probably felt all the rest of his life the same yearning for wltat he had re jccted. It isn't the possession of money that is wicked. We all need a certain amount to pay our way In life and feed and care for our families. It ds the excessive love of money that ruins our lives. The miserly person who wor ships money above all things, and denies the family the necessities ? of life so money can be hoarded. It is the one who "has no money" for his church or the many good causes which are helpful to thou sands in illness or other troubles. How can such a one inherit the kingdom of God? When Peter asked Jesus. "Who then can be saved ?" He answered, "The things which are impossible With men are possible with God." Jesus then took the Twelve and Started for Jerusalem, where He again prophesied His arrest, trial, the- abuse He would suffer, and His death, but ending that in three days He would rise again. "But they understood none of these things." As they came near Jericho, a And then he said. "Lord, the halt of my goods I give to tthe poor; and if I have taken anything from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold." These tax gatherers differed from our own because ours have a fixed salary, but these men bought the privilege of gathering taxes, often paying quite large sums for the job, and the money they collected was their own. Taxes were probably fixed by law, but the gatherer was under the temptation to extort more money than the tax demanded and to oppress the payers. 80 he was despised and ostracized by his fellow men. To this man, who was truly re pentant for his misdeeds and sought to atone, Christ said: 'This day is salvation come to this house, foresomuch as he also is a son of Abraham." Zacchaeus had become a true son of Abraham, changing from a low moral scale to a high one. We too must take our choica of our course la life. If we choose the right one with Cod to guida us, we too may inherit the king dom of heaven. on rafiyriKiitM outlines produced oy me pmsioa Of dinnlian Education, National Council of Ctiunhcs of Christ in Uic 0.3.A., and used by pei mlaatoa, I Pistnbuted by King Keaturta Syndicats - -*?? On World Day of Prayer children in every corner of the globe, grown-ups too, will pray that God will make this world I , Remember last summer at camp when you called out at the edge of that cliff and your echo came answering back? Well, I imagine all the people in the world calling out at once in prayer. Imagine how big the echo would be, and how much it would please God to hear it. ^0U are ^ucky children, because you live here in America, I t because you have your Church and the right to attend it. So | tonight, thank God for things like that, darlings, eyen if you I don't entirely understand them. And when you've finished ... J THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . I ALL FOR THE CHURCH I The Church is the greatest factor on earth for KS the building ol character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization Jr* can survive. There are four sound reasons why TV every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his Tit own sake (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the pFTl * sake of his community and nation. (4) For the 'I sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral 'u and material support. Plan to go to church regu- a larly and read your Bible daily. ?nTfll Day Book Chapter Verara iiii ||| Sunday .........
