Thickety CDP Will Push '56 Rural Safety Program Member* of the Thlckety CDF voted unanimously to adopt the proposed Farm Home and Safetj program as a project (or 10SA a< the regular meeting held at Oak ? , Grov? Church Friday evening. Sherrell Jlmlaon, the new chalr , man, presided and presented Dr. , H. A. Matthews of Canton, who . explained the Safety program which he says will have the sup ' port of the Haywood County Medical Society and also the state society. % A steering committee composed of the chairman, MrConley Ford, Harold Moffitt, Jim Harris. T. J. Fletcher. Mrs. Jarrett Williamson and Mrs. Sherrell Jlmlaon, was appointed to select the various standing committees for the'CDP thla year, and especially the neces sary committee chairmen for the Farm ?nd Home Safety prot ect. This committer will meet at the home of Mrs. Williamson Fri day night at 7:30. Other projects for the year were presented by the chairman with special emphasis on some system of rural fire protection, and a sani tary garbage disposal plan, both of which can be made a part of the Safety program. A plan for increasing attendance at the regular meetings was In augurated, and awards will be given at each meeting. Those re ceiving a silver dollar award Fri day evening were, Howard Dotson, Harley Wright and Wilson Med ford. The MYF of Rockwood Church and guests enjoyed a social In the recreation room of the church Saturday night. Games were play ed by the group and refreshments were served. W. T. Cabe of Newberg, N. Y.. visited relatives in the commun ity over the weekend. He was en route to Texas on business, and will stop over on his return trip the last of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hannah and children of Forest City, visited her parenU, Mr. and Mrs. 8. B. McCrary, over the weekend. James Wray Hlpps, son of Mr.1 and Mrs. Robert Hlpps, celebrat ed his sixth birthday anniversary Sunday afternoon when he invit ed several of his friends In to share the observance. The chll dren played, then the birthday cake was cut and served. Thoae attending were, Donna Carrol Whitman of Waynesville, Mlchal. Wanda and Ricky Matthews of Bethel, Reld and James Carroll Hendrtx of Ratcliffe Cove, Philip Rhinehart. Bob and Carl Wright, Nancy and Bruce Harris, Brenda Robinson and Jane Hipps. Mr. and Mrs. James labe and sons of Brevard, visited their sis ter, Mrs. Lloyd Parham and fami ly, Sunday. Miss Artie Williamson is a pa tient at Moore General Hospital where she underwent surgery Tuesday. The WMU of Oak Grove Baptist Church met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Hugh Early, Jr., with Mrs. Ray Whitted, co-hostess. Mrs. James Smith was in charge of the program which featured the first in a series of a Mission Study Course, "The Tribes Go Up." Those taking part were Mrs. R. M. Nix. Mrs. Troy Ford and Mrs. rom Hall. Several of the GA group were present for the study. A social hour was enjoyed fol lowing the meeting and the host ;sses served refreshments. Witness Ends Life THC BODY of Julius Kalman (above), 65, wealthy real estate operator, was found hanging from a ceiling beam in the base ment of his Boston apartment house. The owner of seven realty firms, Kalman,,was allegedly swindled out of $243,000 by ( George C. Maltland, a former Boston constable, and Marshall A.
