B|ock Mountajn Siler City, N. C.. N. C. Lake City, S. C. I * ! We offer our heorfiest congratulations to these 24 towns for spirited civic improvement programs completed in 1955! However, these 24 cosh-winning towns do not tell the com plete story of the 1955 Finer Carolina Contest. There were no losers! All of the 154 towns that entered competition were winners! For in each community there was a civic awakening! Each conscientious citizen pushed aside his complacence and surveyed his town with a stranger's Impartial eye. Perhaps he saw that his community lacked an adequate water and sewage system and that the residential I t area needed shade trees, streetlighting, and fire hydrants. So he went to work with members of his local Finer Carolina Committee to do something about it! Citizens in 154 towns went to work! 906 Finer Carolina projects ranged from shrubbery planting to attracting new industry. Some ochieved immediate success; some involved long range planning; others met with partiol success. But in every cose these people made their community port of a more progressive, happier, finer Carolina. There were no I # losers! The 1956 Finer Carolina Program is under way! In addition to usual Grand Prizes, any group or club may win a cash award for an outstanding project. Progress cannot rest. Keep Carolina Finer! Enlist in the 1956 Program and keep winning!
