Fingers And Wrist Control Hook
This Is the foarth of Ave stories
; M BETTER BOWLING written
especially or AP Newsfeatnres
by Steve Nagy, Bowler of the
Year.
By STEVE NAOy
Tl^ most important moment of
the delivery is the split second af
1 ter your thumb leaves the hall. I
also call this the beginning of the
follow-through.
When the thumb is free and the
weight of the ball is on the fingers,
you apply the stuff that makes the
hook.
Give a slight lift with the fingers
and a moderate twist with the
wrist knd you have a hook.
The more you exaggerate the ac
tions, the bigger the hook. But. in
the early stages, try to avoid the
big hook until you learn to con
trol the little one. Control is the
rule here.
As you release the ball, your arm
should move outward and upward
in a sweeping motion that com
pletes the arc started with the
backswing. Your hand ends up in
front of your head in line with
your head and the pins.
In my appearances around the
country, many bowlers tell me they
feel conspicuous if they use a good,
sweeping arm motion. My answer
is to exaggerate the arm motion
and feel conspicuous. Pretty soon !
| you'll be doing it naturally and
bowling properly.

FOLLOW THROUGH may be exafrerated but star bowler Steve

Campus Cuffnotes
By Patty Morgan
The main event of interest this
week is the election of officers for
the student body. Walls in the halls
look like an art, gallery with all
the posters that are being used
for campaigning all this week. The
electioneering will be terminated
by campaign speeches Friday, and
voting will take place on Monday.
Running for vice-president will
be: Ashley Neal, Ann Kinken,
Steve Westmoreland, Tommy Best,
and Charles Duke; secretary: Mary
Welte and Thomasine Paxton;
treasurer: Kermit Hyatt. Martha
Swaim. and Robert Fleming. The
elected vice-president will auto
matically become president in his
or her senior year. The other two
officers serve only one year.
The Black Bears suffered a heart
breaking defeat by Hendersonvllle
in the AA tournament at Bryson
City Saturday night. Our Bears lost
by only a small margin of four (
ooints. but four points are just as
many as a, hundred?vou get the
same effect. Our boys did some ter- (

ers. who get a week's vacation be
fore they start practicing.
For assembly Friday, the Beta
Club gave a program, "Beta Fer A
Day". This was a quiz program
with all contestants being "Betas
for a day". The best part was the
consequences that each contestant
had to pay?such as rolling a pea
nut around the main "floor of the
guditorlum and eating a pie with
out utensils. The Beta Club is
planning to present a musical pro
gram in April.
The Future Teachers club recent
ly had a tea for all the teachers In
the Canton School system. The
theme of "the little red school
house" was carried out in very
pleasing taste. An effective program
was given and delicious refresh
ments were served.
The six weeks ended Friday and
those unloved report cards were
issued Wednesday. Many faces
wore a torsional expression, while
others had a smile of satisfaction.
Now that "spring Is springing"
and a boy's fancy turns toward love
and since this is leap year, we girls
can get busy. Beware, boys!
