Mrs. J. Ftank Pate Is New President Of Canton Club Mrs. J. Frank Pate was installed as president of the Canton Gardtsi Club at the regular meeting Tues day morning in the home of Mrs. J. R. Westmoreland. Mrs. G. W. Phillips was associate hostess. Other officers installed were: Mrs. Hugh Keener, vice president; Mrs. Henry Seaman, secretary; and Mrs. Roy Trammel], treasurer. Mrs. Clyde R. Hoey presented a gift from the club to the retiring president. Mrs. James B. Hurley, in appreciation farther service during the past two years. Mrs. M. Noah SwOfford present ed a program on 'The Elizabethan Garden," a major project of the North Carolina Garden Club, Inc. During the business session plans were discussed for - the Daffodil Show, sponsored by the club, to be held April 6 in the Assembly room of the Canton Library. Mrs. A. W. Bottoms announced that two books. "Japanese Arrangements" and "The Care and Feeding of Gar den Plants." have been placed in . the local library. Samples of favors taken to the Haywood County Hospital by Mrs. Charles Branson, chairman of gar den therapy, were shown to the group. . A letter was read from Mrs. W. T. Duckworth extending an invita tion to the club to attend a spring flower show May 8, in the home of Mrs. Joel Wright in Biltmore For est. An Invitation was also extend-, ?d from the Tryon Garden Club to attend a garden tour April 11. The newly installed president an nounced the appointment of the following committee chairmen; Program, Mrs. Clyde R. Hoey, Mrs. J. L. Westmoreland, and Mrs. Hugh Keener; yearbook. Mrs. Wil lis Kirkpatrick, Mrs. Swofford; special project, Mrs. Fred Fergu son; membership, Mrs. H. A. Held er; garden therapy, Mrs. Charles Branson; scrapDooK, Mrs. Herman Eskridge; telephone. Mrs. W. B. Williamson. Jr., Mrs. Marvin Alex ander, and Mrs. G. W. Phillips: beautiAcation, Mrs. Hurley and Mrs. Paul Hyatt; conservation. Mrs. A. P. Cline; landscape. Mrs. J. L. Reeves; publicity, Mrs. Louis E. Gates; flower school, Mrs. Bottoms; parliamentarian. Mrs. L. Harts horn; historian, Mrs. Roy H. Moore. Arrangements suitable (or a breakfast tray were judged. Mrs. Reeves won the blue ribbon, Mrs. Seaman was awarded the red rib bon, and Mrs. Phillips won the yel low ribbon. Following the meeting luncheon was served by the hostesses. C. Johnson on Rat toy Street. Mrs. H. A. Matthews was associate host ess. A program on "Landscaping" was presented by Mrs. Logan White. Mrs. Ralph Crawford, and Mrs. Ed Harlcios. Officers for the coming year were installed by Mrs. Matthews as follows: Mrs. White, president; Mrs. Fleet Holland, vice president; Mrs. Ralph Crawford, secretary; Mrs. Jack Cabe and Mrs. Frank Vetoe, Jr., were Introduced as new members. Mrs. W. C. Johnson, Jr., of Ithica, N. Y., was a guest. Twenty-two members were pres ent.
