everybody to a barbecue supper at
the Allen's Creek School Saturday,
April 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Haywood County Hospital.
Mrs. Effie MehafTey is ihuch im
proved after a lengthy illness.

after having broken her leg. ?

an operation at the Haywood Coun
ty Hospital.
Mrs. L. L. Allen, her daughter
in- law and grandchildren, visited
her son, Lewie Allen, in Indiana,

Sunday afternoon a large egg
hunt was sponsored by the Stokes
on the Allen's Creek playground.
A very large crowd attended the
hunt.
Wayne Caldwell, a student at
Carson Newman, spent the Easter
holidays with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Delmas Caldwell.

Tank Company Has Enlisted
22 Men In Thtee Months
Waynesvllle's National Guard
unit, Tank Company, 120th Infan
try Regiment, enlisted 22 men dur- j
ing the three-month period just
ended, it was announced today by :

The strength of Tank Company
now stands at 02 enlisted men and
three officers. There are vacancies
For 16 more enlisted men and three
officers, which will bring the unit
up to authorized reduced strength.
During the month of April, Tank
Company will hold three regular
drills on Thursday night of the first
three weeks and then on Saturday
and Sunday, April 28th and 29th.
there will be two eight-hour drills.
Durlgn the two eight-hour drills,
men of the unit will fire the caliber
45 pistol fbr record in the base
ment of the Armory and will under
go the preliminary gunner's exam
ination on the 00 m.m. gun prepar
atory to firing scheduled for sum
mer encampment. There will also
be four weekend drills during the
month of - May to complete this
phase of training.
Th unit will go to Camp Stew
irt, Ga, this year for field training
rentative dates have been set for
August 11-26.

The week of April 22-28 (>as been
set by the National Security Com
mittee as "Military Reserve Week"
ami its purpose is to focus atten
tion on the six-month reserve train
ing progam. Personnel of the Na
tional Guard may volunteer for this
six-month period of training at a
regular army post If they have
enlisted in the National Guard be
fore they are 18V6 years of age or
if they are In school, they can elect
to wait until graduation or age 20
to volunteer.
By volunteering, young men
can chop three years off their mili
tary obligation However, If a young
man upon graduation desires Jo go
to college or obtains employment
at home, he can still eomptete his
military obligation through satis
factory service in the National
Guird by serving Until he reaches
the age of 28.

Farmers in this section are get
ting far behind in their work be
cause of the wet weather. They
are hoping for dryer weather so
that they can do more gardening.
Some of the farmers are putting
their cattle out to pasture, while
others are still feeding theirs.
Jim Ferguson left Monday for
Brevard, where he is employed.
The Charles B. McCracken fam
ily lias been visited lately by a
number of people, including Mr.
McCracken's brother, Stewart Mc
Cracken and his wife from Horse
Shoe, N. C.; his niece and family,
Mr and Mrs. Bob McCloud and
children of Washington, D. C.; his
mother. Mrs. T. B. McCracken; a
granddaughter and her husband.
Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Daniel of
Bristol. Va.; a grandson and his
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Reeves Fergu
son; Mrs. J. W. Green, and Mrs.
Eleanor Noland.
Ted, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
