Waynesville-Canton Game' Postponed Till Wednesday For the second straight time Jupiter Pluvius stepped in to halt the second baseball game between the WaynesviUe Mountaineers and the Canton Black Bears. Originally scheduled for last Fri day, the game was first postponed until today and then was set back again until this Wednesday after noon. The two county rivals met for the first time this season on Fri day, April 27, and the Mountain eers handed the Black Bears their first loss of the season, 11-9. In that game, George Mitchell gave up only five hits, while two Canton pitchers ? Sonny Warren and Dewayne Milner?yielded a to tal of 1* to WTHS, Warren went to the sidelines in the third inning when five Waynesville runs crossed the plates. Since that game, WaynesviUe has played only once?downing Clyde 15-3. Canton was leading Lee Ed wards of Asheville, 9-0, when their first game was called on account of rain, and then whipped the Ma roons, 8-3, in a replay of the game. Mitchell will again pitch for Waynesville, but Canton has not announced whether Milner or War ren will be on the mound for ,the Bears. Warren pitched Saturday against Lee Edwards. The Mountaineers are scheduled to meet Christ School here Tues day, but today's heavy rain may have made the local diamond too wet for play. Women Golfers Hold Odd-Hole Links Tourney An odd-hole tournament was played last Wednesday for the I weekly Ladies' Golf Day at the i Waynesville Country Club. Mrs. Bill Ray won the prize for low set score among the 18 hole players and Mrs. Bill Prevost won the prize for low putts. Among the nine-hole players, Mrs. R. S. Roberson won low net and Mrs. David Felmet won low putts. ? " Rookie infielder Ranee Pless of the Athletics won the Southern Assn. batting championship in 1952 and the American Assn. title in 1955. Garrett And Miller Hurl For Winners The Canton Champion YMCA ex tenled its season win streak to 10 games during the weekend by downing the strong Oak Ridge.! Mease caught the first game for the Y, and Ivester the second. In the first game, the Southern champions scored one run in the first inning as Stamey walked, went to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a sacrifice by Rhea and came home on another wild pitch, In the sixth Inning. Miller lined out a double, two Champions walk ed. and Miller came home on a wild pitch. In the second game with the I Volunteer Staters, the Y team con tinued to profit ou wild pitches. . j In the first Inning. Miller crossed the plate on a poor throw after being helped to third by Price's single. Miller tallied another run in the third Inning after getting on baMc on a walk and scoring on Price's double. In th* fourth inning. Moore walked, went to second when Ives ter walked, and then scored on Mease's double. Moore then scored on Mease's single. The Canton squad closed out their acoring in the seventh inning as Poindexter doubled. Ivester was hit bv a pitched ball, and Poindex ter scampered home on a wild pitch. The previous week Champion won four games in North Carolina and before that turned back the I f champions of South Carolina?Co lumbla?in a doubleheader at New : berry, S. C? 2-1. and 3-2. Champion will journey to Spar ! tanburg, S. Women Wrestlers To Appear Here On Friday Night Four \women wrestlers will be featured on a mat card at tiie Waynesville Armory at 8:30 p.m. Friday. One match will pit Marlene Schmidt, "The German Storm Trooper,'' against Maria Garabaldi. The other will send "The Blonde Russian" against Princess Dawn Eagle. In the third event of the even ing the four girls will team up in pairs for a tag match. The program is under the spon sorship of the Waynesville Moose Lodge. Rabies Clinics End Wednesday Clinics to inoculate Haywood l County dogs against rabies will j end Wednesday, it has been an nounced. After that date, ail dogs which have not been inoculated will be picked up by fhe county dog warden. Clinics were held today in Burn ett Cove, Stamey Cove, and other sections of Pigeon Valley.
