weekend by taking three out of
four games from the visiting Tren
ton Democratic Club of Baltimore.

The Marylanders took the first
tilt, 1-0, handing Wade Garrett his
first loss of the season, but the
Champion souad came back to cap
ture the nightcan. .3-1. and sweep
the Saturday night doubleheader,

In the first game Friday, both
teams got onlv four hits, but a
homer bv Jacobs in the ninth in
ning spelled the difference in the
hard fought game. Although charg
ed with the loss. Garrett fanned 13
opponents, while the Trenton
hurler, Hemphill, struck out only
six.
In the bottom half of the double
feature Friday, veteran Nazi Mil
ler scattered four Trenton hits
while Champion was getting seven
off the visitors' hurler. Wiles, Mil
ler struck out nine; Wiles six.
Champion scored its first run as
Poindexter doubled, advanced on
Holcomb's sacrifice and then scor
ed on the third baseman's error.
The Carolinians added one more
in the sixth inning as Ivester doub
led and came home on Clyde Mil
ler's single.
In the opener Saturday night,
Champion Y shelled Wiles for 13
hits, while Nazi Miller was hold
ing Trenton batters to only four
safeties. The visitors also commit
ted seven errors during the'fray.
Leading hitters were Stamey
with a round tripper and Holcomb,
Poindexter, and Moore with two
doubles apiece.
In the second game Saturday
night, both teams again only > got
four hits but four errors by Tren
ton fielders hurt their team's
chances.
In the tilt, Garrett won for
Champion, whiffing eight men,
while the losing pitcher, Hemp
hill. struck out five.
Clyde Miller led the Y squad
with two doubles.
Champion will be. home again
this ^weekend, meeting Mooresville
Mills in a doubleheader Friday
night and Layfield Motors of At
lanta in two games Saturday night.

Sponsor Health Film
. A health department film on
tuberculosis and cancer will be
shown Thursday, June 8. at 8 p.m.
at the Maggie school.
The film is part of a health pro
gram sponsored by the Dellwood
and Maggie Home Demonstration
clubs in preparation for the visit
of the TB mobile unit in Waynes
ville beginning Thursday.

Beta Sigma Phi Cancer
Drive To End Friday
With the Beta Sigma Phi cancer
drive scheduled to end Friday, the
organization is asking any other

Francis Cove Methodists
Hold Revival Services
A revival service is now in prog
ress at, Francis Cove Methodist
Church, it has been announced by

opposing Unagusta and Five Points
taking on Maggie Valley. The four
teams will swap opponents on Fri
day.
The Midget League will open up
Wednesday with the Boosters meet
ing Wellco and the Independents
facing Goodyear.

Home From Japan
Gets Diploma
Freddie Wright, who has spent I
the past 16 months with the Army
In japan, arrived home Friday
and received a diploma last night :
from St. John's High School. A
former student of St. John's
Wright completed study for his
high school course in Japan.
He will go to Fort Jackson this
week for his discharge from the
Army.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Wright, young Wright has been
