Miss Gibson Mtm Calhoun Two Waynesvllle graduates of Western Carolina Teachers college tMs spring were Included in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. They are Miss Harriett Gibson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Gibson, and Miss Julia Ann Calhoun, daughter of Mrs. Fred Calhoun and the late Mr. Calhoun. Both girls made out standing records during their four years at the college and participat ed in numerous campus groups. Miss Gibson, who received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fine Arts and Physical Education, was a member of the Student Senate four years and served as an officer. She was an officer in the Woman's House Government and a dormitory president. She was a member of the college band and chorus and sang in the Methodist choir. She served as president and held other offices in the Westminster Fellow ship and served on the Student Faculty Judiciary Committee. She also included in her activities membership in the Physical Education and Industrial Arts Clubs, the YWA, and Future Teachers, Misa Calhoun received the BS Degree In Education with double majors in Fine Arts and Physical Education. Her activities Included membership in the band, chorus, Methodist choir, Women's Athletic Association, Physical Education Club, Fine Arts Club, Western Caro lina Players, and she served on the yearbook staff this year. She was a senator In the Student Government, president of the Wesley Founda tion and a council member of the State Methodist Student Movement. Truck Lighting Regulations Listed By Highway Patrol In response to a number of In qoiries. Cpl. Prilchard H. Smith ' #4 the State Highway Patrol has cited the following information on lighting equipment required on trucks and buses: Every truck and bus, whatever ] Its size, must have two red re- 1 Hectors (one on each side) and I ode tail light and atop light (this ? may be a combination tall and stop < light i. Turn signals are required on i trucks and buses when the distance ffem the center of the top of the steering post to the left outside lteilt of the body, cab or load of soch motor vehicle exceeds twenty four (24) Inches, or when the dls tance from the center of the top ol the steering post to the rear limit of the body or load exceeds fourteen (14) feet. Clearance lights are required on every bus or truck 80 inches or more in overaU width. Two clearance lamps (one on each side) are required on the ftont. the rear, and on each side. Two reflectors also are required a* each side, one near the front and one near the rear. All lamps and reflectors near the front should be amber or yellow, and all lamps aad reflectors on the rear shall he red. ' Every truck tractor must have two head lights, two clearance lamps on the front (one at each aidei and one stop light and one tail light on the rear. Every trailer or semi-trailer hav ing a gross weight in excess of 9,000 pounds must have: 1. On the front?two clearance lamps?one at each side. 2. On the side ? two marker temps?one at or near the front and one at or near the rear. 3. On the rear?two clearance lamps?one at each side, two re flectors?one at each side. 4. One atop light and one tail light. This may be a three-way combination light; tail light, stop light and white light to light up license. Ted Rogers Leaves On Training Cruise Ted Rogers, midshipman with the Navy ROTO at the Univeraity of North Carolina, left Tuesday from Norfolk, Va? on a training cruise to Europe.- His ship will go to Nor way and Sweden, landing first at Oslo. The crew will spend a week in England and another week in Cuba on the return to the States. Rogers plana to spend a short time In Paris while his ship is in Eng land. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rogers of Waynesville. young Rog ers received a scholarship in the Navy training program and is also a Morehead scholar. He completed his freshman year at the Univer sity this spring and was named to membership in the freshman honor society, which requires a scholastic average of 99 or better. He was alsc a drummer in the Drum and Bugle Corps. Bishop liar old Ward, missionary to Formosa who with his wife was forced to flee from the Communists in China will be the featured speaker Sun day. Workshops will be held at Lam buth Inn Saturday. Also on the program that day will be Dr. Stokes, president of Pfeiffer Col lege. the Pfeiffer College Glee Club, a chorus of Cherokee Indi ans, and Mrs. Harold Ward. GROVER FRANCIS Community Reporter The WMU. of the Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church met with Mrs. George Liner on Tuesday night for its regular meeting. A program, "Thy Word a Lamp, a Light," was given. Mrs. F. L. Leopard. Mrs. Sam Medford and Miss Frangie Noland were wel comed as guests. Immediately following the meet ing the group surprised Mrs. Liner with a birthday party. The next meeting will be held with Mrs. Walter Francis in July. Mrs. T. T. Muse, Sr., had the misfortune of breaking an arm in a fall at her home last Thurs day. Little Doris Anne Underwood, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Underwood, cracked the bone in her arm on Monday when she fell from a seesaw. On our sick list are R. V.
