Sets New Dates
The East Haywood Singing Con
vention ywtll be held at 7:30 Sat
urday night at the Long Branch
Baptist church. The church is at
the end of the pavement in the
Beaverdam community, four miles
from Canton.
Yhis will mark the beginning of
the new time for the singing con
vention. Prior to this the singing
has been held on the third Sunday
afternoon. For the months of
June, July. August and September,
the singing will be held on Satur
day night before the third Sunday.
The faculty of thd Western Caro
lina College Music Camp will ap
pear In concert at eight o'clock
Friday evening. June IS. in the gal
lery of Hunter Library, sponsored
Jointly by the College Lyceum
Committee and the Music Camp.
Mrs. Glennis Stout, flutist, will
open the program with "Andante
and Scherzo", by Ganne. accom
panied by Dr. Richard Renfro at
the piano. Mrs. Stout is well known
for her performance with the New
Orleans and Kansas City Symphony
orchestras, and is appearing at
Cullowhee for the flfth season.
Louis Stout, first hornlst with the
Chicago Symphony, will play "Mor
ceau de Concert" by Salnt-Saens,
accompanied by Renfro. Stout has
also served on the music camp fa
culty since its beginning in 1952
Frances Alterman, soprano, will
sing a group of German selections
accompanied by Renfro at the
piano and Mgrv Osborne of
Waynesville, clarinetist,
Mrs. Alterman, guest artist, is a
leading soprano of Asheville. and
hols music degres from the East
man School of Music and Colum
bia University.
Richard Grace, baritone, will
dng three selections accompanied
by Renfro. Grace is a regular mem
ber of the WCC music faculty, and
is directing choral work in the mu
sic camp.
