Topped with golden crushed pineapple and chopped nuts, these rich, little cookies are nutritious, too. Pineapple Crunchies 1 No. 2 can crushed pineapple 1'* cups sifted flour I tsp. soda a4 Cup butter or margarine a4 cup brown sugar V4 cup granulated sugar 1 tsp. vanilla l:i i cups corn flakes 1 ?.! Cup Chopped Walnuts Drain pineapple: reserve syrup. Sift flour and soda together. Cream butter and sugar, add flour mix ture, vanilla and 1 tablespoon pineapple syrup Stir in corn flakes. Press into balls. 1> 4 inches in diameter. Place on cookie sheet and make an indentation in each with thumb or a thimble. Kill with crushed pineapple and sprinkle with walnuts. Stir into pineapple with jam. Cook and stir over low heat until clear and thick Cool while making crust. Crust: Sift together flour, soda and salt. Mix with oats and brown sugar. Work in shortening until mixture is crumbly, Pat half into 9-inch square pan. Spread with fill ing. Press rest of crumbly mix onto filling, pressing it in so the oats will not flake off and become dry Bake in moderate oven 1375' > 35 to 40 minutes. Cool. Cut in bars or squares next day.
