July 14. at 6 o'clock, Miss Blanche
Ames Davis, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. Paschall Davis of Nash
ville, Tenn., became the bride of
Rev. Robert John Lewis Matthews.

Episcopal Church with the Rev
Raymond T. Ferris, rector, and the
Rt. Rev. Theodore M. Barth, bishop
of the Diocese of Tennessee, read- t
ing the marriage vows.
Preceding the ceremony a pro- i
gram of music was presented by F
Ilenkel, organist, and the vest
choir.
The church was decorated with
tapered arrangement of magnolia
foliage and formal groupings of
lemon foliage. The altar was bank
ed with multicolored gerberas and
at intervals were placed white tap
ers in single brass holders. Illu
mination was from groupings of
cal^kal ??tapers placed between
thet^Huows.
Mr^navis gave his daughter in
maringe. She wore a gown of an
tique ivory silk satin styled with
a figurine bodice, a calla lily neck
lire of satin folds, and petal point
ed sleeves.
Distinguishing feature of the
dress was the heirloom rose pointe
lace which fdled in the neckline
The skirt was designed with an
open front framed with cascades
of the satin revealing the lace
worked in the "Tree of Life" pat
tern. with the satin forming a ca- (
thedral length train in the back.
Her full length veil of ivory silk
illusion was attached to a coronet
of the lace fashioned with a point
in front. Her only jewelry was a
diamond pendant, a gift of the
bridegroom, and she carried a
simple hand bouquet of exotic
spary orchids.
Miss Evelyn Ames Davis, sister
of the bride, was maid of honor
and bridesmaids were Miss Eliza
both Davis and Miss Norma Davis,
cousins of the bride Miss Agnes
Stokes Fort, Mrs. Robert Lee Davis,
Jr.. Mrs. Robert Campbell Taylor,
Miss Mina Ellis of Marblehead,
Mass.- and Miss Elizabeth Jean
Smith of Hickory. All the atten
dants were attired in waltz length
frocks of muiden hair green chif
fon, styled with shirred bodices,
portrait necklines and full flow
ing skirts. Completing their cos
tumes were matching straw half
hats bordered with tiny forget-me
nots, and they carried natural
bouquets of Cerberus.

Immediately after the ceremony
Mr. and Mrs, Davis entertained at
a reception at their home, "Round- I
about" on Tyne boulevard. Nash
ville Guests were limited to riiem
bers of the two families, the wed
ding party, out-of-town guests and
a few close friends. Guests were '
received in the natural setting of
the formal gardens. Around the
terrace and garden walls were i
white caladlum and other summer
flowers. The bride's table was
overlaid with a lace cloth and ,

Alba lilies, and centering the punch
table were white Fuji! chrysan
themums. Throughout the home
were groupings of magnolia foliage.
Mrs: Davis Wore a gown of
smoke blue silk chifTon. made with
a shirred bodice, wide square neck
line and short crushed sleeves. The
Waltz length skirt over taffeta fell
into a ripple hemline. Her flowers
were yellow Zandas
Mrs. Matthews, mother of the
bridegroom, wore a ballarina
length model of Dior blue peau de
sci. designed along princess lines
with a portrait neckline and short
sleeves. The bodice was encrusted
with pearN and brillants, graduat
ing into the skirt. Her corsage was
of phalaenopsis orchids.
Later in the evening, the couple
left for a wedding trip lo the
mountains of North Carolina, and
upon returning will be at home in '
the Robert E. Lee apartments, 2108 1
Hayes Street.
The bride is the graddaughter
of the late Honorable and Mrs.
Norman H. Davis of Washington : '
and New York, and of Mrs. Oakes !
Ames and the late Mr, Ames of
Boston. She attended Ward-Bel
mont preparatory school and was '
graduated from the Winsor school
in Boston. Her junior year in col- |
lege was spent at the Sarbonne in
Paris, and she was graduated in
June from Vanderbilt University.
She was a member of SAP club
preparatory school sorority and 1
Kappa Alpha Theta women's fra- j I
ternity. '
The Rev. Mr. Matthews was I
graduated from Southwestern at I
Memphis and from Episcopal Theo- ; I
logical school. Cambridge. Mass. ,

He is survived by five sons, Ralph

Haywood Native,
Dies At 64
Col. Carter L. Rhinehart. G4,
died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in a
Svannanou veterans' hospital fol
lowing a long illness.
His home was at 148 Arthur Rd.(
-Malvern Hills, West Asheville.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs,
Mary I Pegram Rhinehart; two
sons, Carter L. Rhinehart, Jr., of
llendersonville, and Robert L.
Rhinehart of Burnsville, two bro
thers. Floyd Rhinehart of Canton,
and Col. C. K Rhinehart of Ashe
ville, and two sisters. Mrs. Roy
Trammell of Canton, and Mrs.
Bessie Robinson of Clyde.
Funeral services were held at
3 p.m. today in Malvern Hills Pres
byterian Church.
The Rev. W. W. Preston and
Capt. Deyo Williams Officiated.
Burial was in Bon-A-Venture
Cemetery near Canton.

Col. Rhinehart, a native of Hay
wood County, lived in Asheville
for the past five years.
He retired from the Air Force
in 1946 and from Champion Paper
and Fibre Co. Nov. 1, 1949.
At the time, he was assistant
general secretary of Champion
YMCA.
Col. Rhinehart joined the traffic
department of the company June
1 1926, after serving with the
Southern Railway.
He was active with Champion
until 1940 when he entered the
Army as a captain with more than
27 years of National Guard and
Regular Army service.
He was promoted to major in
1942, to lieutenant-colonel in 1943
and to full colonel in May 1946.
His decorations included the
Commendation Ribbon, for out- j
standing service in the organizing
?nd training of communications
tvorkers on radar and radio equip- [
ment for the Air Technical Serv
ice Command.
His final assignment on active
duty was as commanding officer I
~,f the Signal Training Center 3 at
Kelly Field near San Antonio,

After leaving service, he joined j
Champion Y as assistant general
secretary,
He retired because of ill health.
