Beech Gap Marker To Commemorate Confederate Vets One of the big feature's of I he joiii| meeting of the State Literary and Historical Association and the Western North Carolina Historical Association ,to he held at Brevard August 10-12 will be the dedica tion of a bronze markor honoring the 125.000 Confederate veterans from North Carolina in Ihe Confed erate Memorial forest at Beeeh Gap Mrs. R V Barber, Sr., of Waynesvilk?. announces that plans are complete for the dedication of the marker at 2 30 o'clock Satur day, August 4 This memorial forest in (he Pis pah National Forest has a tract of 123,000 trees, one for each man who scrwd in the Confederate army The plantings were made In 10-t2, in pursuance of a contract made with the National Forest Service and the North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of^the Confederacy I Preliminary services were held in 19t2. but the permanent monument of native granite, hearing a bronze plaque, mold not bo plac'd until the road leading to Beech Gap was con structed and opened to the pub lic for travel a few months ago A number of officers of the State t'.D.C.' and south-wide officers of the organization will attend the event, plus members of Ihe Slate Literary and Historical association and the WNC Historical Associa tion.
