Use the Want Ads for results Grounds of Christian Assurance CHRIST SHOWS HOW TO BANISH ANXIETY Scripture?Matthew 6 25-34; I John 2:28?5 21. By NEWMAN CAMPBELL ? OUR FIRST lesson on the ban ishment of anxiety Comes from Matthew's account of part of Christ's Sermon on the Mount. People in His day were just as much in need of comfort on that ever present problem of needless untying as we are today. ' ^prlking to a great crowd of ( people. Jesus pointed to the birds j flying overhead They do not sow seeds for food, nor do they reap it as man does, neither do they j store it for future needs. Yet food is provided for them by our heavenly Father, and Jesus said: "Are ye not much better than they?" : Then why worry about clothes ? consider the wild flowers. They do not toil nor spin, yet even King Solomon, in all his glory, could not rival their glorious colors. "Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye ers as little children " Ho is not writing to youngsters, however, but to all Christian people. He j is thought to have been about 90 years old at this time. In beginning the third chapter of his first epistle, John calls at tention to the love of God in call ing us His sons. "What manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." Do we appreci ate that beautiful fact ? Do we try to act as His sons, daugh ters, children ? If our hearts do not condemn us in these things, "then we have confidence in God, And whatso ever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His command ments. I "And this is His command ment. That wc should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another." John warns of false prophet*, as Jesus did also. There are many ' in our world who tempt us to be MEMORY VERSE 4'This it the victory that overcomcth the world, even our /aith."?I John 5;t. shall rat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than meat, and the body than rai ment?" We know we must plan for our food, housing, clothes, etc. Christ Himself planned for the future, lie chose 12 disciples and trained them to preach the gospel when He had left them. Why fret and worry? It does harm and no good. Why not have faith that if you meet with problems to morrow, you can. with the help of our heavenly Father, overcome them? "But seek ye first the kingdom of Cod, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. "Take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of it self. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."?Matthew 6 34. You will notice that St. John. ? n his epistles, addresses his read disloyal to our faith. Shun them. "We are of God he that know cth God hcarcth us; he that is not of God, hcarcth not us." i Agam, as in our last lesson, John speaks of the need for love one to another. Hatred toward even an evil doer hurts the hater more than the hated. Learn to try to understand others, even if they do us wrong "Gove your enemies; do good to them that hate you," Christ said. i This is a truth that should be emphasized to even small chil dren. Teach them that love is indeed better than hate, and if there is hatred in the heart of any, show that by casting it out and doing a kind deed to the hated one. following the Lord's will, love will replace hate. "Beloved, let us love one an-' other; for love is of God, and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love." L'Otf ibntcti by FcAtttTM SyM??U | -sfa ' k^'jEL ?k ?I SECURITY | Security is everyone's byword in this era of tension, anxiety, and bristling competition. It's the goal of gov ernment, industry, business, family, and nations. Security generally means being sure of something, or even someone. But, no one gets security without giving. It is not self-accomplished. Other people and factors con .r ? ' tribute in providing our security. ( :?? ^ Above all, God alone is the source of security and seren ity. Society cancels out our security with finality when we run afoul of its standards, whereas God endows us with the privilege of obtaining forgiveness and mending our ways. I How secure are we against the disasters and perils of life I and against our own imperfections? To find the answer, I turn t? God's Church where we will find the fountain of / security. * ^ I THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support e Church They are (1) For his own sake (2) For his children's sake (3) For the I sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support.
