AND JOHN WRITES OF THE SONGS OF PRAISE OF THE REDEEMED IN HEAVEN Scripture?Matthew 6.4-lS; Revelation 7:0-11; ll:15-19a. By NEW MAN CAJirBtLL r JESUS had a good deal to say about prayer. He prayed many times in his short life on earth, and God is our Father, too, and every child who has a good father knows that if he wants some thiasks his father for it. arthly father cannot al 'ways give his child what he asks for either because it may not be wise or because he cannot afford the price, or for other good rea sons. , Jesus says God will answer our prayers if we go to Him in the right spirit, but sometimes we pray for the wrong things and we can see later that we should rot have asked for them, or that we are the better for not getting them. In the first part of our lesson Jesus tells us how to pray. There are some, He says, who want to We are told next to pray for our daily bread, and do we, as we ask that, remember the countless millions who never get their daily bread or not enough to nourish their bodies, and ask Him to help them too? "And lead us not into tempta tion, but deliver us from evil.'* God never leads us into tempta tion. He only leads us to the good. It is the evil spirit who tempts us and we pray that we are giv en strength to resist the evil. We are also told to pray that we be forgiven our sins as we forgive them that sin against us. for if we are unforgiving, how can God forgive us ? In his wonderful book of Reve lation, John tells of the great multitude standing before the throne of God ? people of all races and tongues?all clothed in white because their sins had been washed away by Jesus' sac i MEMORY VERSE "Our Father which art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come."?Matthew 6:9-i0a. be heard and praised by many for their supposed piety. They stand on street corners or in the synagogue or church and pray loud and long, not to beg mercy cn their souls, or for forgiveness (Of their sins, but to be heard. Christ tells us that when we pray we should enter into our closet (or bedroom), close the door and pray in secret, and God will answer us, for He knows iwhat we need as well as we do. We can pray on our knees Jwhen we are ready for bed, or after we are in our beds, or when we are sitting quietly in church or Sunday school and He will hear us. We need not always ask Him for things. We can thank Him for the many blessings we have been given. 1 Christ gave us the model pray er which we all know so well, "Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, In earth as it is in heaven." riflce. They held palms in their hands and were singing praises I to God and Christ, j "And all the angels stood roundabout the throne . . . and l'ell before the throne on their faces and worshiped God, saying: "Blessing and gltfry, and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might unto our God for ever and ever. Amen." "And the seventh angel sound ed; and there were great voices in heaven, saying: The kingdoms of the world are become the king doms of our Lord, and of His Christ and He shall reign for ever and ever." Our space for this lesson is fill ed. However, let the teachers not neglect to tell the children about the rest of this great Revelation of John's and talk to them about it. The older ones might be en couraged to read it aloud in turns and later to discuss it among themselves under the teacher's guidance. He has reached the point of no return. He dare not turn back. Years of research by scores of scientists have perfected his plane. Hours upon hours have been spent in readying it for the journey. If something goes wrong now, the pilot will know instinctively what to do, because of his long years of training. Like the pilot, you try to prepare for emergencies. You realize that without training beforehand, it is impossible to meet a crisis wisely and adequately. The spiritual knowledge you'll need for these times can be found in the Church. Through its guidance you will learn to meet everyday problems with serenity, and emer gencies with confidence. Begin right now to strengthen your spiritual reserves of courage, faith, and hope.
