Four major projects arc lur ing sponsored by four organiza tions this year as part of Hazel wood's Finer Carolina Program, but th *ir subdivisions are legion. The Hazelwood Boosters Club, the Boosterettes. the I'uivnt Teacher Association and the Ha zelwood Lions have each outlined a program which they are doing their best to bring to completion. The Boosters are well along in their plan of securing land and building a community clubhouse. They have purchased the land, thanks to their rolling up their shirt sleeves in sponsoring a county-wide 4th of July celebra tion, which, with their other fund-raising activities, put them over the top. The Booslei ectes' goal is town improvements Tluv st.rtid the butt rolling toward having the entire town zoned. The local zon ing commission lias completed its work and final approval is ex pected any day. The Boosterettes also decided to get more people to attend church, and it is a fact that every Hazelwood church lias reported an increase m membership dur ing the past year. Hazelwood's new street mark ers were another project of the Boosterettes. Thanks to their ef forts, every corner is now clearly marked by a concrete post paint ed with the names of the inter secting streets. Finally, (he Boosterettes are devoting themselves to the im provement and maintenance of the Scout Hut. Located in the recreation area around the school, it is designed as a meeting place for Boy and Girl Scout troops or for any other young people's group. The Parent-Teacher Associa tion. as is natural, is chiefly .con cerned with batter facilities and greater safety in the school area. They pushed to completion the paving of the play area on the school grounds, giving youngstors an all-weather surface for bas ketball. tennis and other activi ties. In addition, they initiated a number of changes in loading and unloading children at the school. Unloading is now per _ - 9 mitted only on the school side of the street, so that no child will have to dodge traffic as he runs at the sound of the last hell. The opposite side of the street now has signs posted: "No Unloading." A new road has been constructed to swing around be hind the school All school buses must use this lane for loading and unloading, thus relieving congestion in the street and. as in the other project, permitting the children to reach their class rooms without going through traffic.
