New Lines Of Furniture To Be Made A holocaust less than a year , ago was the spark that set off | a huge building and moderniza tion program for one of Hazel wood's oldest industries. The new building's 200,1)00 square feet will house the equip ment necessary to turn rough lumber into bedroom and dining room furniture which will be shipped all over the United States, to Canada or to Central America. Mahy-tonned machinery, air conditioning units, dust collec tors, a 1200-horsepower boiler' and a sprinkler system including 2S0-000-gallon storage tank are THIS IS the gigantic edge gluer machine iust received at I'nagusta Manufacturing Company. The machine is so large that a 60-foot Hat car was necessary to bring it here. The machine weighs about 40.000 pounds. It is the largest made, and is heated hy steam. Shortly after the new plant goes into operation, about Jan uary, executives expect to re employ their usual force, num bering 350 or more. The force was cut to 200 after the fire. Uhigusta employees stay with the firm, wttli the annual labor turnover less than 1 per cent .Ninety per cent of the employees have been with the company for six years or more; and 25 per sons have been there for more than 25 years Hospitalization, life insurance and a retirement plan are paid for entirely by. the company, with employees supplementing their twn hospitalization if they de sire. For the past 15 years the plant has been unionized; and it has recently signed a five-year Contract.
