Clyde Tramples Tryon, 40-0; To Meet Bethel At Canton Thursday Night Cardinals Remain Unbeaten The unbeaten Clyde Cardinals rolled to their eighth straight Skyline-A Conference victory Fri day night by trampling Tryon, 40-0, on the Polk countians' field. The win also marked the six shutout scored by the Cardinals, who have tallied points to their op ponents 12. Johnny Rogers opened the scor ing for Clyde by going over in the first quarter on a long Cardin al drive. ? ? lie and Danny Caldwell added touchdowns in the second quarter to give Clyde a 20-0 lead. Rogers ran one conversion and Bob Mc Cracken kicked the other. McCracken crossed the goal line in the third quarter and booted an other conversion to make it 27-0. About two weeks ago a strange porker with fierce-looking tusks three inches lortg wandered into the barn of Clharlie"Buch anan at Aliens Creek and proceeded fo make himself at home. Nobody in the Aliens Creek community could recognize the pig, and Mr. Buchanan started feeling concerned over the four footed intruder, who began causing quite a commotion among the other Buchanan livestock Last weekend, however, after the publication of an item about the errant pig in The Mountaineer, a Jackson Countv farmer identi- I fied it as his, and made preparations to take it back to his farm Before this could be done, however, a veterinarian had to be j called in to put the pig to sleep and also saw off his tusks as an added precaution. Meeting Set Here Thursday To Discuss Family Courts One of eight meetings to be held in the state to determine the re- j quirements of a system of family , courts in North Carolina, as rec ommended by the Governor's| Youth Commission, will be eon ducted in Waynesville Thursday il has been announced by the State j Board of Public Welfare at Kaleigh Sponsored by the commission these meetings are a part of the survey being conducted for the j commission by the National Proba- j lion and Parole Association, accord-1 ing to the Announcement by Nat! S. Crews, commission chairman. The Youth Service Commission was created by an act of the 1955 1 General Assembly and the mem-' bers were appointed by Governor Luther H. Hodges. The commis sion's purpose is to advise the governor on matters relating to the prevention, control, and treatment sf juvenile deliquency in North Carolina. The members of the commission, in addition to thej chairman, are: State Senator Adam J. Whitley, Jr.. Smithfield; Mrs. W. T. Carpenter. Lenoir; Mrs. Ernest B. Hunter, Charlotte; and A. B. Gibson, Laurinburg. Representatives of the National Probation and Parole Association as well as members of the govern or's commission will participate in the series of meetings. Special in vitations have been sent out to per sons who have official responsibil ity in the area of juvenile and do mestic relations courts and child welfare. Others are included who have special interest in or official responsibility for law enforcement, judicial action, or, probation serv ices relating to families and chil dren or to young offenders now un der the jurisdiction of the criminal courts. The meeting will be open to the public and all interested per sons are invited. Chairman Crews said. Representatives of the National Probation and Parole Association who wiil participate on the pro grams are; Frederick Ward. WCC Homecoming Plans \ All Set For October 27th i 1 Plans have been completed for the Homecoming Day celebration at Western Carolina College, ac cording to Tyroe II Riser, chair man of the Homecoming Commit tee. On Saturday. October 27, the event will begin with a parade in Sylva at 10 a m . sponsored by the Student Senate. The theme chosen for this year's parade is "Songs of the Old South," and each float will be decorated to represent some particular song. Registration for alumni will be held in Joyner Building trom 11:30 to 1:00. Open house is scheduled in all dormitories and the Student Union Building from 1 00 to 3:30. The new gymnasium will be open for inspection from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Alumni and guests will be en tertained at a tea in the faculty lounge and roof garden of Hunter Library at 4:15. with the local chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma as , hosts. At five o'clock there Will be an alumni mass meeting in the gallery of Hunter Library, with Tom Mal lonee of Candler, president, in charge. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected at that time. Tin- annual barbecue will he held on the college picnic grounds at 5:30.
