the Promotional Plan gave a full
report on activities to date

Carolina. Alabama, Virginia
Georgia and Michigan cities:
There will be a total of 100 con- j
tests. They are being sponsored by !
the Colgate Polmolive Company
and the following Western North
Carolina Counties: Avery. Bun- '
combe. Cherokee, Graham, Hay
wood, Henderson. Jackson. Madi
son. Macon, Mitchell, Swain.
Transylvania, Watauga and "ian
eey. The following attractions arc
also joining in the promotion
Chimney Rock. Flat Rock Play-'
house, Unto These Hills. Horn in
the West. Grandfather Mountain.
Blowing Rock. Whiteside Moun
tain. Riltmore House.
A new' regional folder has been
published and over 300 000 have
been distributed in conjunction
with the contests.
Two winners have already conn
to the area for vacations. Others
will be arriving shortly. Hotels, j
motels and guest homes will pro
vide rooms and restaurants will
furnish meals.

the attractive red-haired Nancy
told mo at a party at her Spring
Valley home. "A friend in New
York wanted one right away for
his oilier, I worked it out from a :
composite drawing I made from
several photographs"
A portrait Nancy did of their j
10-ycar-old son. David, dominates
the studv. A painting of daughter
I.inda and Ikt dolls in 1949 won
top honors at a local exhibit. It
hangs over the mantel in the liv-!
ing room.
"I haven't had time for portraits
latelv." Nancy told friends and
neighbors gathered for the party.
The four children. David, I.inda.
Diane, and Gail and their varied
interests ha\ e kept her busy. Be
cause of them she decided against j
accompanying her husband on his
campaigns this year, as she did in
1952.
In addition. Nancy is continuing
to teach art three days and one
evening a week. The children often
go with her to the rented studio
on Saturdays.
"They dabble. too."( she said,
"and they all so.-m to be fairly
artistic."
The senator's wife, a graduate of
the Glascow (Scotlandt School of
Art, studied in London. Paris and
the Coreoron Gallery here. She
mixed the paint and took charge
of the decorating of the home they
mu;?d into a year ago. The result
reflects the family personality, but
Nancy's mast of all. The pale avo
cado green of the living room, the
deeper shade* in dining room, hall
and den. the muted green of the
wall-to-wall carpeting/ offer a fit
ting background to the hostess'
vivid coloring.
"I guess we all choose colorings
that are good for us." Nancy ex
plained. "but I'm afraid my fam

Throughout the house are many
interesting mementos of her hus
band's travels. Centering fW'
flowers on the ancient oval off5n
dining table where Nancv said she
used to study as a child, were
four graceful herons, carved front
elephant tusks. The Senator
brought them from India last year
