NOLAND ? Kditors ? PATSV CLAkK The main topic around school the past few weeks has been poli tics. Bv Monday everyone was getting pretty good on their argu ments. They had heard enough from their fathers or someone else to put up a good argument. One of the main questions was: should you vote lor the party, or the man who you considered the best? Well, 1 guess some had "to be disappoint ed and some pleased when they herrd President Eisenhower had been reelected. The U; S. history and civics classes showed a lot of interest in this election. They had a mock election in which each girl and hoy registered and voted. This made everyone feel as if he were 21. Students had panel discus sions, with the civic class present ing theirs to the U. S. history class and vice versa. These discussions were very interesting. Now foi the exciting news: Eisenhower with 179 votes, won over Stevenson, 1 v.ho got 123 votes. The holiday Tuesday was won derful. It gave us a chance to catch up on our sleep. Seems like every time we have a holiday some of the girls have to sleep all day. 1 wonder if slumber parties would have anything to do with this! The chorus -is busy working to send a 30 minute recording to Kinston High School. * Glenda Eavenson, chairman of the com- : m it tee composed of Brenda Bren- | dall,'Judy Davis, Libby Smathers. i George Stretcher and Mike Leath leiwood presented to the Ohoru: ; some very good ideas. i The usual pep session was held | Thursday at the beginning of third ( pi riod. This was a good prep ses sion and I am sure it put us in good spirit to win the game Friday night with Elizabethton. We will play our last game of the season this Friday night against Owen ; High. We hope to win this game. | so let's all -try to see it. Preceding the pep session, the | seniors were asked to remain for j a short meeting. Mr. Weatherby ; gave us a program and we im mediately knew we were going to | do something. He told us we had been invited to tour Champion ?'Wednesday, November 7. We were asked to take our programs home j and study them carefully and de- i cide which career guidance ses-j i sion we were interested in We I met again Monday and gave the ; | total of the selections and decided ; on transportation We left Waynesville High at !? ] o'clock Wednesday and assembled i in the Champion YMCA at 9:30 I with two other schools, Clyde and Crabtree. \Ve were welcomed by J. E. Williamson. A talk, "Get-! ling Better Acquainted with Cham pion." was then given by A. M. Fairbrother. Next came a panel .j discussion, "Preparing for the Fu- j | time." by J. M. Barnes, D. W. Kan- | dolph, Harold Hansen, and R. II. j | Patterson. ! Thic SU/'iittfinn i. ?int.,,. i esting and helpful to all of us. After a 10 minute recess, wo j reassembled in the Rvm to see a movie. Then in career guidance , sessions we chose the vocation we , were interested in. We again as- I sembled in the gym for another ] movie, and then were served a ! i fine lunch in the Champion cafe- ; teria. After lunch we made a tour of the mill, where we had some fine guides to tell us all about the ; operation of the machines and manufacturing of pulp and paper : The process is a very interesting j sight to see. The seniors would like to thank Champion very much for the hos pitality they showed and the plans they had for us. | 1 am sure the day was well spent and made us realize the purpose of a good education.
