Stevens Western Regional Playoff Site To Be Named Tonight The Canton Black Bears, Blue Ridge Conference champions, and the Murphy Bulldogs, Smoky Mountain Conference repre sentative, will meet Friday night in a Western Regional Class AA playoff game, but the site of the contest will not be decided until tonight. Principal W L. Rikard of Canton lligb School told The Moun taineer this morning that coaches and officials from the two schools will meet at Cherokee at 7 o'clock tonight to select the game site and make other arrangements for the contest. Murphy and Swain High of Bryson City actually tied for the conference crown this season with 6-1 records, and had to flip a coin Saturday to decide who will represent the Smokv Mountain loop Canton ended its season Friday by whipping l^ee Edwards. 13-7, for a conference mark of 6-0 and an over-all record of 9-0. The Black Bears rolled up a total of 308 points while allowing only 38. Murphy posted an over-all record of 8-2. and scored 184 points while allowing only 57. Mountaineer Midgets Lose To Canton, Whip Asheville led the Midwestern team to a 13-7 victory over Buncombe County in the first of the Turkey Day classics. The Mountaineer Midget foot ball team closed out their 1956 season last week bv losing to the Canton Gra-Y Bears, 19-6, Friday night and then whipping the Asheville YMCA bv the same score Saturday morning. The local midgets outplayed Canton in the first half, and left the field at the half with the score tied at 0-0. However the Gra-Y Bears picked up one touchdown in the third quarter as the result of a blocked kick, and added two more in the final period. Waynesville's lone touchdown was made by fullback Bruce Bowman who burst through the center the the line and went 50 yards for a touchdown. Against Asheville Saturday, the Mountaineer Midgets scored on a 40-yard pass play from Bowman to end Jack Prevost, a 60-yard run by Bowman, and a 40-yard pass play from Robert McBride to Gerald Kelly. During the season the midgets won over Asheville twice, lost three games to Canton and one to Hendersonville ? although out playing the latter. ? Clyde Places Four Players ' On Skyline All-Star Team j The Clyde Cardinals, runners-up in the Skyline-A Conference again this year, placed four men on the 22-member All-Conference Squad named last week by Skyline coaches. Clyde's representatives were end Jimmy Green, tackle Charles Carv er, fullback Johnny Rogers, and halfback Danny Caldwell. Conference cnampion Glen Al pine placed six players on the all star team. Among gridders given honorable ?^'mention were four more Clyde gridders: linemen Harold Seav, Bill Ingram, and Willard Haney and back Bob McCracken. The Cardinals, coached by H. B.
