Bad Manners Are Causing Much Grief AI' Newsfcaturea "Most young people today (and my own are no exception) have atrocious manners" writes a dis illusioned parent, "and it is pitiful they aren't aware of how much haim they do themselves or other people." llow much harm is done by bad manners? A mother relates that she has been brought to tears by the ac tions ot a daughter. On one occa sion daughter lunged into the house with a group of friends and asked her mother and her friends to leave the living room! A teacher tells how she has been told over and again to mind her own business by a number of spoiled girls in her class. "You can't do anything about it," she says, "because even a parent who understands the problem will rush to the school board and complain If you reprimand their grown-up brats." Is money the root of the trouble, asks one parent. "Young people make too much money for their own gtxid," he says "-Unlike the last generation, they're not putting the money into the family kitty." One parent say* his young man saved up on an after school job bought himself a jalopy, and then presented his father with the bills for school tuition, books and clothes. School girl* arc wearing hor rible dresses In an effort to be sophisticated, one mother says When she wa* shocked by the fit jnd depth of the neckline plunge, fier daughter responded with "1 bought this with my own money, ?o why don't you mind your own business." What can you do when she's ill ready to go out? the mother vails. Young people are rude to each jther. One young girl observed telling i friend that her shoes were the cheapest looking pair she'd ever teen, was appalled when question ed about it. "Well, they were," she countered, not realising that even f she had been asked to jjive her lpinion her appraisal should have >een tempered. The girl who'd been insulted vas hurt as it turned out, but when liked about it replied: "Oh. I don't mind her. She's ifraid to be nice because people vlll suspect she is soft." Does this generation pride itself in being hard boiled? Or is this independence the exult of working and earning a [ood Income? A father has this to say: "The last generation slaved to nake u few pennies in the wheat Iclds or in a factory to help out t family. That taught them respon ibitity. But today's young people ire only working greedily to corral nore choice morsels for them elves. They're getting more egotis ieal and righteous It doesn't cost anything to give i verbal bouquet occasionally, to The Crabtree Methodist Charge K. J. Haiui. Pastor CRABTREE SUNDAY?
