world" buying exotic delicacies and
art objects donated by the foreign
embassies and officialdom. You
c; n see most of the town's bigwigs
and actually have fun while con- j
tributing to charity
Folks had a chance to try out
chopsticks while eating oriental
sh'-tmp. chicken and rice dishes at
a Japanese embassy style benefit
for the Japanese International
Christian University of Tokyo, '
which graduates its first class next [
April. Ladies of the embassy in [
colorful kimonos greeted visitors. '
Among those assisting with the'!
tea-pouring were Mrs. A. D. P.
Heeney. wife of the Canadian am- |
bassador. and Mrs. William J '
Sebald. wife of the deputy assis- j
tant secretary of state. Seen weild- '
ing the chopsticks were Mrs. Sher- !
man Adams, wife of the President's
assistant, and Mrs. Harold Huston,
wife of the associate justice
Mrs, Charles Thomas,wife of the
navy secretary, was in charge of
the bazaar's foreign foods com
mittee and garnered for the sale
such items as sardines from Por
tugal, Christmas cake from Nor
way, candied fruits from Cuba and
chocolate from the Netherlands.
Among the scads of other ba
zaars was the annual benefit for
the American Friends committee
and a foreign exchange student J
program of the Sidwell Friends
School, where many prominent
papas and mamas send their
youngsters. Mrs. Ernest E I)e
matitis. wife of a diplomat, was
bazaar chairman. Among those ,
contributing unusual gifts were
Mrs. Arnaral Peixoto. wife of the
Brazilian ambassador, and Mrs.
Thor Thors, wife of the Icelandic
