"1 was glad When they said unto me, let us go into the House of the Lord."?Psalni 122:1. ^imd^l^Goor) More Than Conquerors F SHOWING HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS TO FREE US FROM SIN 7 Scripture?Romans 8. I uy vvwui lAJirntLi, I FEAR that this lesson is go ing to be a somewhat difficult one to interpret to young chil dren. The older ones will gain much in studying Paul's words to the Romans and applying his teachings to their own personal lives. f Dr. Wilbur Smith, editor of the Sunday School Notes suggests that the teacher might tell of an experience of his, when he was by a friend to visit a man dMvealth who lived in a house that had not been painted or re paired for years; whose garden had not been tended, fruit trees were uncared for, fine furniture was unused, beautiful books had been put away and never read, and the man himself, past 80 years of age, was living frugally though his wealth totalled $2 million! | He had been liberal in giving to the Christian cause, but how much more good would he have done if he had made his home a comfortable place for himself to \ Jesus, ine example set by Christ when He was on earth will help us. Just think, "What would ; Jesus do ?" when we are about ' to utter a falsehood, say some ' thing cruel about ano'her, pick a ; quarrel, or do any one of the un kind things that we all do occa sionally, and we will not give way to these temptations. Paul wrote to the Romans that, "There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." True sons of God are led by the Holy Spirit. You will remem ber that this Spirit led Christ into the wilderness: this same Spirit led Andrew to bring his brother Simon to Jesus. If we are led by this same Holy Spirit, we too may become true sons of the Father, God, and temptations will not be allowed to make us fall into sin. J "Likewise the Spirit also help i cth our infirmities; for we know MEMORY VERSE "HV know that all things work together for good to them that love God."~Romans 8:28. live in, and a hospitable meeting place for the people of the church and for visiting missionaries, preachers and Christian people, generally, who needed such hos pitality. With all that wealth how much good he could have done with it, if he had helped the poor and un fortunate. And how much happier he would have been if he had let the Spirit of Christ of which Paul .writes, guide him! We all know that from early childhood through our entire lives we are fighting divers tempta tions. When we are young we are trained in ethical conduct by our parents. For most of us the pattern of our lives, whether for good or evil, is set by our train ing in the home and by the ex amples of parents. Even so. we may. and often are tempted to do wrong?not to; commit crimes possibly, but to be selfish, inconsiderate of others, quarrelsome, etc. How do we overcome these urges? Cod always helps us if we pray to Him or to His Son. not what wo should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercessions for us with groanings which cannot be ut tered." This Spirit is one of the Trinity?God the Father. Christ His Son. and the Holy Spirit. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His pur pose." When tragedy strikes a fam ily, this may be difficult to be lieve, but faith in the goodness of God and His help in time of trou ble, can still triumph over dis aster. Paul writes, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribu lation, or distress, or persecu tion. or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword?" God sacrificed His Son to die' for our sins. He will not forsake us as we go through life if we trust in Him and obey His com mandments. Living thus we too can be "More than conquerors", throughout our lives. But the men who scale the highest peaks concentrate on one step at a time. There, seem to be_.plenty of folks with noble aspirations who rarely go to Church. Some of them may reach their goals; but legion are the others whose "one false step" starts an ava lanche of broken hopes. The steady, sincere, every-Sunday church-goer usually has noble aspirations and a far better chance of achieving them! ^ He has learned to study each step by faith and prayer ... to ^ test the ground on which he treads ... to climb with others in a H common quest of the summits of life. r ?
