Five Haywood Cage Teams Set For Action Tuesdav Brevara in Conference Tilt Here Three high school basketball games are scheduled to be played in Haywood County gyms Tues day night?involving five of the six county teams. Waynesvilie will play its first Blue Ridge Conference game of the season when Brevard invades the WTHS domain tomorrow night. Bethel will go to Crabtree for a twin bill, and Fines Creek will journey to Clyde tor a pair. Canton High, which was sched uled to open basketball practice today, will play its first game of th? season Friday against Lee Edwards at Asheville. The Mountaineers will take their 2-1 record into the fray Tuesdaj night against the Blue Dovils. who are 1-1 for the season. Brevard won it^Hvpener against Mills River 40-^^^ut lost Friday night to Eto\dW 44-42. The Brevard girls have lost both their eames thus far?26-21 to Mills River, and 38-29 to Etowah. The Waynesvilie boys have" lost to Murnhy. and have won over Fines Creek and Crabtree. The Waynesvilie girls whipped Mur phy. were tied by Fines Crv*ek, and then defeated Crabtree in their last game Friday nieht. Bethel will he heavilv favored at Crabtree tomorrow niaht. The Blue Demons lost by 10 ooints to powerful Erwin of Buncombe County in their opener last Tues 1 day, but came back strong to bur> Finos Creek. 91-27 Friday night. The Bethel Belles have won handily in their two games with Erwin and Fines Creek. At Clyde, the Fines Creek girls and tho Clyde boys look to be, stronger than their opponents. The Fillies have won two games | with Crabtree, one with Biltmore.. tied Waynesville. and lost only to Bethel thus far. In their only game to date, the Cardinalettes took a 79-44 trouncing from Walnut. Tlrp Cardinals also lost at Wal nut Friday night, but by only four points at 53-49. and appear to have a decided edge over Fines Creek's White Hornets who have won only one game this season. Schedule At Asheville Friday Night ' rne Canton Black Bears, and Lady Bears will open a 20-game basketball schedule Friday night at Lee F.dwards. and will wind up the season February 23 at Ashe villo School. Canton is getting a late start in iU 1950-57 cage season because of the Black Bears' participating in the state Class-AA football play offs. ~ Coach Buck Barkby of the boys' team said he has six lettermcn elig ible this season, but explained there is a chance that some of the boys who were also on the football squad may elect to pass up basket ball.
