Mountaineers Upset Strong Owen Warhorses, 60 To 53 The Waynesvllle Mountaineer cagers played their finest game of ? the young season Friday night to hand the previously unbeaten Owen High Warhorses their first!1 defeat of the season, 60-53, on the Owen hardwood. Howe\er. the Waynesville girls suffered their first setback in the opener, 47-34 _ 1 In the boys' game, the favored Warhorses were in the lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Mountaineers forged ahead at the i half, 25-24. and stayed in command , the rest of the contest. Co-captain Tom Sparks, a con stant threat with his short jump shot, bucketed 20 poinfe for the Gold and Black, while/big Bruce Davis hit 12 and did a good job under the boards. Henry Jenkius i showed up well in a relief role with 10 points for the winners. Gardner, Owen's 6-9 center, took scofing honors for the game with < 23 points.
