den Lennie Hunt is a big man in
racing, lie s the trainer of King
Hairan who. like Needles, was foal
ed at Ocala, Fla., and hopes to
emulate Needles by winning the
Flamingo Stakes next March 2.
Hunt has been on the race tracks
since 1924. As a jockey he rode
his first winner in 1925 at Stanford
Park, Ontario, on a mare called
Isabel C.
He has worked for Alfred G.
Vanderbilt and George Odom. His
present employers, Leo Edwards
and H. B. Massey, bought King
Hairan for $35,000 after his first
[race at Hialeah last winter. The
King won $191,575 in 1956 'and
Hunt, as trainer, came in for a 10
per cent share.
