ty's two largest staple crops are
doing splendidly following the re
cent general rains.
i The rains also were an aid to
cucumber growers, coming Just in
time to save this really important
crop in Duplin county. It is esti
mated that there are -upward of
700 acres of cucumbers in the
county.
Early corn, which is now on the
market has made very good : in
some sections. '
The first tomatoes to be ship
ped in the county, were loaded in
Warsaw on Tuesday. They 6 brot
a good price, of 11 per lug. War
saw is the largest tomato market
in the county .there being a grad

Lima beans and pepper are also
on the market at the present time
and prices are encouraging,
On the whole -potatoes . and
string beans were the truck crops
that bore the brunt of the drouth
in late May and early June,
Strawberries preceded the dry

the $300,000 contract as quick as
possible. As you know this survey
has already been made and we
hope that the $300,000 contract

I cannot trive yon the exact
date as to when contract will be
let but assure you that no other
county or road will get the money
which has been allocated to this
road. It will cost about $30,000 a
mile to build this road and you
see it is a matter of impossibility
to let the whole length from Wal
lace to Warsaw at one time as we
do not, and will not have the a-
